View Full Version : Have the bugs been worked out on the G36? Is there a sequence of serial #'s to avoid?

I got the pistol buying bug. 'Just curious if the bugs are worked out now. Would I be better off with the 30 for CCW? Thanks for your help and it has been a while. This board has really improved from what was an already nice platform.

I have owned two 36's in different serial ranges, and a 30 which I own now. I liked the 36 for the simple fact that it hides like a dream. It is potent, accurate, and very very concealable. I didn't like the pinch between the base of the grip and the front of the mag floorplate though.
I love my 30. It hides almost as easily as the 36, with 4 more rounds in the mag. It is just as accurate and very soft to shoot.
I recommend the 30 over the 36 now...Just my Opinion...:)

The pinch is fixed by a fingertip extension with no loss in concealability. The 30 is only slightly wider than the 36. I'd definitely take the extra 4 shots.

They weren't on mine. I dumped it and got a G30. The G30 is a much better pistol IMHO.
I agree that the 30 shoots more softly, and that the 4 more are just that...more of a good thing, but...I you only carry tucked like it do, with out benefit of any exterior cover garments (no coats or jackets due to permanent hot weather) then the 36 just hides MUCH better than the 30, their concealibility is world apart. With the best tuckable IWB rigs (VM2 or Compact CTAC IMHO) and a good leather belt, the 30 still produces a slighlty noticeable bulge, while the 36 disappears. As I get older, weight of the gun on the hip is also a factor and at about half a pound less than the 30 fully loades, the 36 feels much better at the end of an all day carry.
Finally, fit in hand for the 36 (for me at least) is excellent.
I think the best recommendations (repeated here often in the 30 - 36 comparison that pop up) is what feels best for you, is what is best for you.
In regard to bugs (not the rail problems mut malfunctions) my experience is that all of the FTF, stovepipe jams, etc., in my first 100 rounds were limp wristing.
I did not want to beleive it first (I am 6'2 and 260 lbs and did not think - ego in the way - limp wristing could happen to me) but, after letting a more experienced shooter test my 36, and focusing on the fixing my hold, I realized I was not using proper technique to hold the gun (which my 5'2 110 lbs wife can shoot like a breeze-its all technique).
My experience (and reading the posts here of others experience) tells me that in regard to the 36, most newbie malfunctions are limp wristing. Not to say any products, glocks included, cannnot have bugs, but this is just my 2cts.

30 is to fat and to heavy for all day carry.
The G36 hides and feels like a dream....
....the G30 feels like a nightmare.
G30 shoots better becuase of its weight and fat grip which displaces the energy.
... for carry choose the G36!

Different strokes....
I had a 30, a little fat for me. Shot great and all, but felt fatter when trying to conceal.
Again, ymmv.
My 36 has not had one single malfunction of any kind with jhp or fmj. It fits my hand better and conceals better, imo.

I just bought a 36 after thinking long and hard about the 30 or 36...I grabbed teh 36 due to concealability. And wiht my smallish hands, the shorter, fatter handle didnt feel right in my hands.
Although I love the extra 4 rounds of the 30, if you can't stop a threat with 7 shots, hand him the gun and allow him to do the honors;)

I had a similar but different experience. I found that at the range I would never have a jam in the first 25+ rounds that I'd fire, but after that I might have one or two. I think that after the first few mags fired I was loosening up my grip. If I focus, it always fires -- but since the grip is like no other gun I own, I need to focus more with it. I have lots of guns I prefer to shoot, but none (in 45) that conceal better than my G36.

I only had one problem with my G36 and it was of my own making. I put on the extended slide stop and found that the gun jammed. As soon as I put the stock part back on, (with a new spring) the gun returned to it's normal reliable self!! ;e
I own the 30 and the 36 and find that the 36 carries better. After a while, the 30 tends to feel like a brick. But, that's just me!! ;Q
