View Full Version : FBI Fingerprint cards " ORI " Field info.
What goes in the "ORI" box???
I have some blank printcards, and can't find this info anywhere. I remember there needs to be some number, or info so the card gets sent back to the correct agency. This is for a Form1.

It should be the ORI number of whatever agency prints you. SOmeone else correct me if I'm wrong.
Well, I printed myself since I'm a cop here.
I thought that was an FBI number so that the card gets sent back to the proper ATF agency....

If you did it yourself, put in your ORI. That's what I'd do...actually, I'd just come down to the ID lab at work, and have them do it.;)
Small DPT here, I AM the ID lab.
I understand the ORI number requirement if MY Agency was doing the background check, but the FBI is doing the check, not my department.

Since the cards are for a NFA item, the fp cards should have the ATF's #. The fp cards will be sent back to ATF after the FBI runs them.
THIS IS WHAT GOES IN THE ORI BOX:
DCATF0100
AT&F FIREARMS & EXPLO DIV
WASH, DC
Do not use the ORI for the police dept. that did your fingerprints. When you send everything off to ATF, they forward your prints to the FBI to make sure you're an upstanding citizen. The ORI field tells the FBI where to send the results back to. If you use the ORI from some PD, FBI will send the results back to them, and they (the PD) won't know what it's for.
More than that, it will delay getting your approved forms back.
Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, putting my agency ORI # in that box would do me NO good, since my agency isint doin the background check. I rolled my own fingerprints on the cards since I know how, I'm capable, i'm a cop and my agency is setup to do it, go figure. :)
It is kinda weird signing my own print-card though ;a
JAKK---->Thanks for the detailed explanation for those that didn't know what I was asking for.
--MODERATOR, this would be REALLY good info to ARCHIVE into the FAQ as I might need it again at a later date when I forget! ;f

Yup, its the ORI # of the agency...for example, ours is WA0320400...also goes in NCIC/WACIC entries for stolens, clears, warrants, locates, missing persons...teletypes...etc.
