I have a buddy that is having a Rat problem on his property. He has a barn or shed behind his house in which he keeps his dog food. He said that he went out today to feed his dogs and saw something run across the yard. He said he stood there and watched as about 10+ rats came out from under his barn stealing his dogs food. He asked " What can I do to get rid of them?" I said Ill be here tommorrow with my Gamo Shadow 1000 pellet rifle to do a little Rat sniping. Wooo Hooo!! this is going to be fun. Plus Im going to poison them with Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz oh what a relief it is. And watch them die in Agony.;b

Come on out to the ranch and have some more fun when your done there. We don't have the rats, cause the rattlers eat them, and they are all over the place, so are the bob cats. Truly an experience at night when you go out to the barn, or even to get into the truck in the shed. Been around it forever, so it isn't 'quite the rush,' it used to be, but it will wake you up for sure when you are a little sleepy! Hey, Maybe we could send him the rattlers, then he wouldn't have the rat problem anymore!

BTW..... You want more than a pellet gun out here! :)

Have fun with your 'Rat Killin.'

use traps that will work great. Shooting them will be fun also . the only bad thing about poison is it takes a few days to kick in and once they die they can be anywhere in the barn and smell

If it is possible where you are, shoot them with a 12 gauge. You can buy a case of 250 rds of light birdshot for $50. I would imagine it would be more fun.

Get a spot light with a red filter.

Cabellas sells some that attach to your scope and connect to a 12v battery. I think they are about $40 plus the battery.

Cool! Thanks for the info. Those things are really slick and fast. We might just poison them.

Good practice for hunting season.

I had a friend who used to raise rabbits for food and fur, She deer hunted with a Marlin 30-30 and had a similar Marlin .22. All summer long when it was time to cull a few rabbits from the hutch she'd set a couple on the ground in a big mowed field behind their house and take them with head shots from the .22. The rabbits left behind in the hutch learned pretty quick and it was good practice for her.

My grandfather had a big silo right next to his barn that he kept about half full of corn.

Rat hunting was one of my favorite things to do when I visited the farm.

I had a little single shot, bolt action .22 that I was deadly with. I also used a .410 scattergun sometimes and when I was older, I used my Remington 541 T HB at a pretty good distance to dispatch those Mickeys.

Grandma's cats used to flock around me when I would visit. They were too lazy to chase down those rats themselves but loved the "silo buffet" I would provide for them.

Any luck with that Gamo Shadow 1000 pellet rifle on them
pesky rats?

I prefer .357Mag/.38Special CCI ratshot for those pesky critters. Sure is fun! Something about slaughtering rats brings out a very sadistic side of me...

No I havent been able to take a decent shot at one yet. They are to quick and won't stay still long enough for a shot. :( But the Gamo would take 'em out easily.;)

I havent seen or heard anything from my buddy since we put the poison out. Ill check with him some time this week.

I used to slip out to the barn with a flashlight and a .22 loaded with shot. Usually got at least 1 or 2. They kick a little after being hit with the .22 shot, but it works from a distance 15-20 yards.

We have them going now. We sat out 4 boxes of Rat Posion and placed a makeshift bowl of water as directed on the box. I saw two out near the edge of my buddies yard staggering and the other are acting nutty also. I advised him to place his dog food in a metal can like a metal trash can with a top on it.

I'll bet you will be real popular when the dog eats some of the dead rats that are laying around and the poison makes him sick as well. I like an open choked 20 gauge with light loads as a tune up for bird season. Walk thru there and kick em up and bust em on the run.

You oughta take one to the taxidermist, say you got 'em on your last hunting excursion, just to see the resonse. Might also be fun to actually get one done up and put him over the fireplace next to the deer.

Hey man--keep me in mind for one of those rat shoots!!! We could get together and blast away at them...i have a 10/22 that i have not even shot yet!! Just sitting there in the safe---hehehe Try some of those calibri rounds that just have a primer--no gunpowder--should be just about right for those rats--hummm.I tried them in my buddies 10-22.Only draw back was single shot--would not cycle them.
