I LIKE THE LOOKS.Have they always had that roll mark(STEYR M9)?Very understated yet exotic in desighn and profile!i certainly like it.
Interesting,
I noticed in one pic that area above the trigger says
"GZS BAldwin, IL"
On mine it is blank/empty.
Anyway, I am sure you will enjoy it... post again when you come back from the range :)

tggt04, thats kinda weird.
My M40 is an early gun and it says GSI T'VILLE AL where as my S40 has the GSI T'VILLE AL burned off and GZS Baldwin, IL carved into the frame under where it used to say GSI.
My guess is that your gun was made after GSI stopped being the Steyr Importer but before they decided who the new importer is (although I'm not sure how it got into the country then)
Are you in the US?
My has that too - actually, 2 of mine have the original markings removed and new one put on below. The ones with green slides have the markings removed, but the new ones with black shiny slides have the new markings inside the little plate like it should be.
Congrats on the gun - get some more while you still can. I already got 3 and will get some more soon. Steyr on!!
Very interesting to know... so the importers info is located there?
My location is Canada, and it is definitely empty/blank (had to double check).
:)
Yeah, the original importer info was in the frames, when GSI went out, considerable ammount of frames was left over that needed to be renamed, which is why the old ones had to be erased and renamed. I think it adds to character, personally.. :)

Maybe Canada doesn't require the importers name to be stamped on imported firearms?
The BATFE requires the importer's name and city to be stamped in some permanent fashion on the frame of any firearm imported into the US.
bastards.

Same for the Walther P99's... guess Canada doesn't have the same import requirements.
Of course, I've heard guns are 2 to 3 times ( ;P ) more expensive up there...
Canada is weird in her firearms ways... we can own pistol grip 14" shotguns if they come that way from the factory.
But there is no such thing as conceal carry here; at least for the civilian.
Weapons are broken down into 3 groups: Non-Restricted (rifles/shotguns), Restricted (Handguns/AR15's) and Prohibited (AK47/any handgun with a barrel length under 104cm) <--why my Steyr M9 has a longer barrel; Thanks Steyr for making a Canadian run!!.
Interesting thing, a long time ago before we had to register all of our friearms... you'd go to the range or local gunstore all you saw were long rifles.
If you were one of the few to go after a handgun it would take a month after you bought one before it was approved to be taken home -- fast forward to now, with the registration of everything I can now take a rifle/shotgun home 15minutes after I buy it and a handgun 3 days later.
It's really nice going to the range now and seeing way more restricted firearms. Forced registration is bad, but I am glad that 'black guns' are getting more popular here because of it... I bet the "You own a gun?!?" crowd didn't see that coming ;b
This is one Canadian gun shop which is AWESOME!! to give you an idea... IMO this would not have been possible 10 years ago... http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/
(I am in no way affiliated with them... but dream regularly when I check out their site.)
Oh yeah... usually things are more $$$ here :(

Sweet !! Thanks for the breakdown tggt...
I'm actually a Canadian citizen but have never lived there (my mom's from Winnipeg)... but the grandparents are out in BC.
GO CANUCKSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thansk again, good to get more details on the laws up there... that barrel length thing sounds like what an Australian dude was telling me they have down there (i.e. minimum barrel lengths)
>> any handgun with a barrel length under 104cm <<
Wow! That would be a huge handgun. ;)
