OK, here's what I'd like to do. I want to compile all the info an Steyrs and put it in one convenient spot. Not many people know hao to detail strip an M-series, so it would be logical to start there. I'd like to post a photo walkthrough, and I'll get to work on that ASAP. If anyone can post links to existing sites that have that already, it'll lightne the workload. I recall one was posted before, but it only covered half the pistol. If you have any good links or pics, please post 'em

One bit of advice is that on step 10 if you have trouble pushing the button then try pushing the trigger forward

I was actually snapping some pics, just as tggt04 posted his pics. Ok got 'em up.....
In order to disassemble the slide, you have to start by taking the slide cover off. To do this, push the slide plate pin fully forward(towards the barrel end)http://home.comcast.net/~c5367/slidecover-pin.jpg

While holding it forward, slide the slide plate downward. This is a very similar to the way its done with a Glock. The pin in the Steyr does the job the firing pin sleeve does in a Glock. Likewise, ease the plate off because the pin you held in may shoot out. Keep your hand covering it to prevent losing the part. With the slide pplate cover off, the firing pin and slide plate pin will come out.

Next comes the extractor. insert a small flathead in between the extractor and the extractor, push the pin as for to the rear as it will go. The extractor will now wiggle out. I use one hand to hold the slide, the other to push the pin, and then I just shake the slide, and the extractor falls right out. http://home.comcast.net/~c5367/extractor.jpg

The LCI assembly requires a sight pusher to get out, because the rear sight holds the assembly in place. I'm currently working on that, and I'll post the pics once I get a chance. Its a bit of a PITA, so it'll take me a bit. If anyone wants to see a little more detail, or something is unclear, post away, and I'll do my best to help out.

the little c-clip that holds the sping on, within the firing pin... is the rounded edge facing the back of the pistol or towards the front of the pin?

And here is a quickie of the lower...

Aside from the spring located in pics 5 to 8 (super hard)... I would avoid removing this spring unless you understand how I put it back together from the pics... it will drive you crazy otherwise. It's really tough.

Again, go in reverse (start at pic19) to dissasemble; I find it easier to take pics when everything is apart.

anyday, taking the Styer slide apart seems like a bear. I guess I will have to clean the firnig pin channel and extractor well someday, after all I do have to carry this thing as a duty weapon, but I sure won't be in a rush.

Its a lot easier than it looks, for a basic takedown at least. It only takes me about 3 min dis/ass to take the slide apart, not including the LCI assembly. With the LCI, it takes maybe 10 min for dis, and around 20 min for assembly. The only reason it takes so long for the latter is that little circlip is a PITA without a circlip tool, which I don't have. then again, it isn't necessary to go that far but once in a blue moon.

The extractor pin is incorrectly put in your slidebuild.jpg.
Its chamfer is supposed to face outwards. It is not in your photograph.

As I have suffered from this with my S40 (incorrectly assembled in the factory) and got this fixed as soon as I realised there is a problem, I suggest you fix yours, take a new picture and resubmit to GT.
(Search and read my other posts on this issue if you will.)
Otherwise this slide would be misleading to GT folks and could result in lots of aggravation.

I couldn't see the problem...

If you are referring to picture 14... that is actually the rear of the extractor you are seeing, not the extrator pin.

If you look really closely at the extrator pin you can see a small notch cut out which is facing outwards... it is similar to the picture above this post posted by C5367. The rear of the extractor is so close to it that is looks like it is the wide portion of the pin; but it isn't.

If your chamfer is so small, my old eyes evidently could not see it properly on your #14 & #15 photos.

On my extractor, the chamfer goes to the centerline of the extractor pin! Don't know why and an order to usasteyr.com for a replacement is on the way.

I agree, the picture posted above by c5367 shows the correct orientation.

For the record I too ordered a new Extractor set from USASteyr... It fixed my problem and the chamfer is small.

Today I came back from the range. I shot 200 rounds of Federal 124gr FMJ and not a single bad ejection. Wow, what a difference.

It was a nice day and I also shot the best I ever had. I was shooting from the bench at 15yrds... I am not the best shooter, so having an average 2" 5 shot goup for the day was great :cool:
