View Full Version : trapezoid sights
i have had my steyr for a couple of years or so. i really like it. i still cannot decide if i like the sights. they are great for fast combat style speed shooting. i do have trouble with the fine shooting with 'em. the gun is up to the task, it is plenty accurate, but i have to really struggle to get the appropriate sight picture.
does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?;c
if it isn't a carry peice, you could get the OEM night sights which are traditional 3-dots. I haven't found the need to get them myself, I really like the triangle/trap sights, I just wish someone made trits in that configuration. It isn't necesary though, the pistol naturally lines up in my hand. I figure if I ever had to use it in low light, the target would be pretty close for me to identify as a threat. At close ranges, just pointing the thing is surprisingly accurate. If only my G21 had ergos this good....wow I got really off topic. Yeah, the OEM 3-dot trits might work, and tggt04 is testing the rumor that Sig sight work, so that may open even more options.

BDhawk I feel your pain. The first Steyr I got was my M9 it has the trit sights in 3 dot configuratoin. When I finally got a M40 it took me a while to get used to the Trapazoidal sights. Now I shoot my S40 with the trap sights better then my 3 dot M9!! Give it time When you go to something that differant it just takes a while. Good Luck

I've only got 400 rounds thru my M9, but I like the triangular sights.

Got both versions, and I like the trapezoid sights better - a sharp point allows better accuracy then a square block.

I am hoping they arrive this week in the mail ;g ...regular post from the US to Canada.
Let us know when they arrive. Dont have my steyr yet but I do really like the trapezoid sights. When I get mine Im debating on whether sending it to trijicon to install night sights. I know they install them on P7s that werent origianlly n/s equipped so shouldnt be a big deal. Only downside is the increased cost, though you can get a factory coupon from AZ Gunrunners to save a little cash. Since the rears are slanted I was thinking they could install the small dots, like the kind they put in their AR sights, so as not to disturb the outline in daytime use. Might be interesting to have a o0o configuration. Im gonna email them and see what they say. For a CCW piece it should be worth the upgrade.

When I first looked at the Steyr at the gunshop it was like I had been using those wierd sites all my life. I just wished they came in glow in the dark.
So...
The sights finally came in.
I had ordered some Millett Series 100 adjustable sights for the Sig Sauer P225/226 pistol.
The good news:
The front sight was a perfect fit in my M9.
The Rear sight is also the same cut and fits...
The bad news:
The rear sight is 1mm too short in depth, luckily the sights have two setscrews which allows for tight placement, but... it looks weird with a 1mm gap at the bottom of the sight.
I will post pics later...

I find precision shooting easier with the triangles.
