Does anybody else have an SBS Pro-Hunter? I've had mine for a couple of months and am pretty pleased so far. I have a stainless steel .30-06 model. It features a 23" hammer-forged, free-floated barrell, and I added the high-capacity kit, so it now uses a 10-round detachable box magazine. These mags are hard to find and quite expensive ($50 is the best I have found), so I only have two.

It is the same action as the Steyr Scout, but it lacks the integral bi-pod and spare mag storage. I am not a big fan of .308, compared to .30-06, so it is a better rig for me.

I have a ProHunter Mountain in 308win in blue finish. I like short barrels. I was going for the 308win Scout in the first place but I chickend out because of the price tag. Instead I got the Prohunter with the 10 round adapter and two HC mags. I love it. I ordered a Weaver style rail, Leupold QR rings and with the Kahles Helia CB 2.5-10x the gun is just the way I want it.
;f ;f ;f

PS: For years I used to have a 30-06 as a prime rifle but now I prefer the .308win. Probably because 308 fits right in between my two other bolt action guns, 338 win.mag and 223rem.

It is shooting roughly 1 MOA at 50 and 100 yards. I am just starting to work up loads for it though. I started with the loads I have for my Remington 700 in the same caliber, and while they are OK, I think it wants a longer C.O.L. I have some loaded, I just need to get to the range and do some shooting.

I'm also using a relatively low-power optic (Leupold VXII 2-7x33).

Same here. So far I haven't had time for serious handloading. But I' m confident that I'll get kick-@$$ groups with Sierra or Nosler. Two years ago I had a Prohunter in .243 constantly performing half-inch groups from a solid rest...

I've got an SBS in 376 Steyr. I love it. I have a weak spot in my heart of wierd calibers. Don't own any rifles in 30-06, 308, 25-06, 243, ... I'm much happier w/ 376 Steyr, 458 Win Mag, 8mm Steyr, 7.5 French, 7.62 Nagant, 9mm Largo. :) I would say my 376 has one of the best triggers I have ever run across. My shooting partner's description is "a glass rod breaking." I wish I'd had the money to get the 6.5x55 when CDNN was selling them. Would have made a nice pair of rifles.

the 6.5x55 was my grandpa's favorite caliber ...before the 7x64Brenneke became popular. He had a nice Mannlicher Schoenauer.

I have the 20" .308. At 100 I have shot .27 with it. At 200 I have shot .51. I was shooting with 168gr fed. gold medal. My bolt/action is not like a Remmy. The bolt will not fall open. The trigger is just fine, and with the groups it can shoot I am happy.

Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr. Each one was shot with different lot numbers, as it was about six months between the recorded groups. A few trips inbetween, and since, I have shot around 1 MOA. This was me though. No regrets with the Steyr.
