With the way things are going. I have an interest in a house rifle.
I was thinking SKS or AK. I have talked to a few folks and they have told me AK is the way to go. I have found a Romanian for 369.00 with the full stock. With a 5 round mag and 20 round. Owners manual cleaning kit sling and instruction on how to tear down and back together. Is this good? Thanks and Regards
Is it a SAR or a WASR? $369 seems a little high, but it all depends on the market in your area.

If it accepts hi caps then the price is about right. The Romys are drying up and the prices are reflecting that.

I don't mean to sound like a know it all or anything, and I'm definitely not ragging on your choice of weapon or anything like that, but are you sure you want an AK for home defense?
I don't know about yall, but I don't plan on touching off my AK in the house, unless things are real bad, like a Jamacian hit squad coming for me or something.
It just seems like that's a lot of bullet to be going through walls and stuff.
For home defense, I'm grabbing the 12 guage! I did have buck shot in it, but rethought that approach since I'm in an apartment, now I've got some bird loads in it. Not as effective as buck shot, but it would still be pretty devastating at closer ranges.

Thanks folks
You have given me some things to think about. I live in rural area of Oklahoma. The AK's I checked on are at a store in Midwest City. I did not know there are different types of Romanian's. I need to make another call. I guess instead of house rifle I should have said "homeland security" rifle. Thanks again for your help.

Cowpuncher, you need to call Outdoor America Store in Oklahoma City. He has a way better price on Romanians then the place in Mwc! Check them out if they still have some left.

Not a bad price on a rifle that may not be available before to long. Read the news.......;)

After research and cking around. I am thinking the Robinson Arms Vepr is the rifle for me. For 100.00 or so extra than the SAR. Thanks and Regards

I'll be the first to confidently tell you: Great choice! AK variants don't get any better than the VEPR IMHO. Great build quality, robust internals, a heavier barrel and a RPK receiver make a great deal of improvement.
Congratulations.
