View Full Version : Model-M/S finish... which do you have?
So, does anyone know the deal with the finish on the slide of the Model-M (or S?) pistols?
Mine is a really ugly flat grey-green (it's lighter in color than the grip and actually looks 2-tone.)
Any info on this type of finish most appreciated.
(I noticed some pics show a Glock like black finish which looks nice... I wish I had it.)

I think that the higher seriel numbers have the green tint slide my M40 is around the 10XXX mark and has the black finish. I picked up a S9 the other day and it had the green finish but the trigger was smoother than my M40.

My M40 is in the 5000 range and has a very flat/matte black finish, my S40 is new and in 22000 range and has a glossy black finish.
My serial number is 30,000+ (M9) and it is flat grey/green.
The trigger is awesome.
The finish is just kind of ugly, it doesn't look uniform and a little scratchy.
I guess what I was wondering... was Steyr doing this on purpose? Is this a military finish? no glare at night or something?? Surely it would have been easy to make a nice glossy black finish.
THE FINISH LOOKS LIKE THIS...

Have both green and black. Greens have their original import markings erased. Black ones have a new ones stensiled in place of the original. Black is the new variety and it's not the parkerized finish the older ones have. Its smooth black like Beretta.
I picked up a M-9 today, serial # in the 28,000 range. The finish in very matt black and smooth.
I have the lighter finish, I think it just a fine Parkerizing job.

I have an M9 in te 27,000 range and it has a nice matte black finish But not as pristine as it first was).
32000+ serie M9 here and finish is very dark green matte. Green shows best only in certain lighting but damn its pretty
i have a 27xxx model. has the black perk finish. since i don't really intend to use for conceal carry or shoot at night, i don't need a non reflective finish. i want a nice blued slide ;f
Is it possible to have the slide nickel plated?
I was thinking of asking some local shops... would it be as easy as sandblasting then plating?
would there be any concern about specs (slide to rails or firing pin bore, etc.)
??
Just curious...
