If it's still packed in cosmoline get yourself some non-clorinated brake cleaner, and automotive formula goo-gone (K-mart). Use the brake cleaner on the metal, and the goo-gone on the wood. Check out this site on takedown.

Then go buy a case of ammo, and shoot the he** out of it, and when it's hot wipe the liquid cosmo out of it.
