I have seen the peep that replaces the tangent sight. What I want is one that attaches to the rear of the reciever (not the dust cover) to give you a long sight radius and quicker acquisition.

Does anyone make one? Maybe I will.

In my experience, the accuracy of typical AK is better than regular sights will allow.

I'm pretty happy with my MOJO peep sight from Red Star Arms.

Specifically designed for the AK-47, the Mojo AK-M aperture sight is a handsome, fully integrated improvement on the blade issue sights on these popular rifles. Like all Mojo aperture sights, AK-M sights are fully screw-adjustable for elevation and windage. Also note the integrally machined mounting lugs for maximum strength and arsenal fit. Unlike some competitors who favor the softness and cheapness of aluminum, Mojo machines their sights out of cold-rolled steel. No alteration or modification to your rifle is required, with the obvious exception of removal of the stock sight.

I second the MOJO. FAR, FAR superior to the original AK sight. Much faster target acquisition. Easy to adjust. Co-witnesses easily with my red dot on my UltiMak. Best AK combo.

So they are all going into one ragged hole?

My Kobra will give me 2 MOA at 100 yards from a rest.

I also have a Mojo and it's better than the factory blade, but it's still too far forward to be optimum.

There IS somebody making a receiver cover mounted AR15 flip peep.....can't remember who, they don't get many reviews. Saw it a few months back on http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=77

Krebs shows a soon-to-be-released ar-15-style peep, but doesn't show where it is installed.

My advicee would be to save your money. I have the krebs peep rear sight. It replaces the original notch sight. I believe the aperature is the same size as the Mojo sight. It really does not change the sight radius. I noticed my groups did open up a bit using the krebs sight. I recently modified it by cutting the round aperture in half making an "half circle" for the sight. I have not tried this out yet. Overall for me it was only a marginal improvement over the standard notch sight.

I believe the new Krebs AR type sight has to still attach to the rear of the dust cover. I cannot see where else it could be mounted.

While Krebs does have a peep sight that is a direct replacement for the production blade sight, which is quite similar to the MOJO (what DT has described), their AR-15 style peep does in fact attach to the dust cover. It is a windage adjustable, dual aperture A2 style sight:

This is their current production piece. Not sure what the "new and improved" version looks like. I have a very similar one on my Krebs built KTR-03, and really like it.

That's what I am talking about! I might have to get one of those to mount on an aftermarket tight-fitting cover.

I assume you removed your blade sight...

My AK is a Krebs built KTR-03, like the one shown below. When he builds these, he completely removes the original rear sight block:

As you can see in the pic, the KTR-03 version of this rear peep sight has an integral scope rail also.

BTW, it must be pretty cool to live in a state that has been abbreviated as "AK".^c

Better AK than AR[kansas]

That is a slick-looking piece. What kind of accuracy is it capable of?

These guns are based off the Russian made VEPR, which are well known for their high quality and accuracy. The receiver cover on the KTR-03's are stabilized by installing what appears to be a set screw in the recoil spring release "button". This screw (which has been adjusted and loctited in place) pushes the cover firmly down on the top of the receiver, so the cover (and more importantly, the rear sight) doesn't move around. Haven't shot mine from the bench as of yet, but have heard many raves from various individuals about the accuracy of the VEPR's in general.
