1. Glock 17,19 (9mm). one-third the parts in a beretta. Piss on it or leave it with your dog and it still works.
2. S&W 686/686+ (for .357/.38). Shiny, heavy, fun, impractical.
3. S&W Model 10 (for .38 only) Hasn't changed much in 110 years, still simple and good.
4. Beretta 92fs, just because it looks good. Disassemble it, count the parts and curse.
5. S&W Ladysmith and grind off the name or change your gender. Good size.

6. Oh, all right, a 1911, and spend a lot of money fixing it so it doesn't jam too much. After the 10th jam, give to your dog.

7. Get a SAM from Cebu. Play Russian roulette with confidence. Don't worry, it won't work.

Anyway, here's what I prefer

1) STI EDGE (or any of their long dust, high-cap models)
2) CZ-75 (good manufacture, good steel and reputation. IMO an improvement on the Browning model)
3) HK USPs (boringly reliable and superb craftsmanship)
4) Colt S70 Pistols (the early gov't models are better in steel and fit. historical because of the Moros and great resale value)
5) Glock 17 (a revolutionary design, very simple and reliable)

If it's a top 10 list, here's the rest

6) SIG P228 (simple and reliable)
7) Ruger GP 100 (built like a tank)
8) Walther P99 (excellent handling and second strike capability)
9) Beretta 92FS (battle proven, great fit and performance
10) S&W 686 (great trigger and performance)

For the 11th, Armscor and Norinco.

2. Styr M-A1

This is a great thread and I agree with a lot of people here in their choices.

My list (in order of priority) -

1) A HK USP-style
2) A Beretta 92-style pistol
3) A Hi-Cap 1911 (Para or STI)
4) A Glock
5) A S&W Magnum revolver

I have all of the above. And fo0r some of the above categories, I have more than one sample.

The above were chosen not based on competition use but for fighting purposes.

For a patriotic group, it's amazing that no one here considers locally manufactured firearms as their favorite or things to buy in the future. All the talks and bragging about their imported firearms. And then they complain that the Philippine economy is so bad. I still remember the thread where a member said something not so pleasant about Philippine-made products and he was attacked. Hmmmmmmmm. I'm confused. ;Q

I guess the truth hurts so bad huh? Anyone wants to dispute my previous post? I remember you literally attacked a member here who critized a Charles Daly pistol. Just read on how you brag about your imported firearms (or imported anything) and nothing but imported firearms. Does anyone talk about their locally-made fireamrs? of course not, kasi yung local na baril kulang sa porma factor. :)

I don't have a favorite one, each one has it's own purpose, depends on what I am doing. I just buy whichever I want/like and sell the one that I get tired of. kahit saang forum yata sa internet, may mga taong katulad nyan na walang ginawa kundi ang manira, ang maghasik ng mga negative comments, at mambwisit ng kapwa.

mabuti nga kami dito sa BOG, mga responsableng gun owners. baka nakalimutan nya na nasa demokrasya tayo at malaya tayong pumili ng kahit anong baril na gusto natin basta hindi tayo lumalabag sa batas, di ba?

let us not interpret "patriotism" in a myopic sense. hindi porke't imported ang baril natin eh hindi na tayo patriotic.

I fully second what 9MX said, let's police our own ranks. In a way, this is our house graciously given us by the owner and moderators of GlockTalk. The least we could do in return is to put this house in order and abide by GT's simple rules.

Now that this is settled, let's all ease out in giving any more comments about the incident and continue to post relevant to the topic.

Thank you to The Godfather, Eddie C., for helping us maintain order in the Band of Glockers. Mabuhay (long live), Eddie!

The STI/SVI guns seem to get a nod often, specifically the Trojan. I'm curious why I don't hear more about this gun. How does it compare to a high end Kimber or a Les Baer, for example?

its probably because sti/svi pistols are often used in IPSC competitions, haven't seen shooters competing with a kimber or a les baer. i'm not so sure if these brands carry hi-caps, assuming they do, it is probably more expensive than sti/svi. :)

In general, the STI Trojan is a better gun than the Kimbers, and it's a much better value. Trojan are pretty much ready to go for whatever you want to do and you can get them configured the way you want. STI fits their barrels at least as well as Kimber, and the rest is just more refined. Trigger pulls are usually better, etc.

Kimber is slightly less expensive, but they need more work. I had to replace the grip safeties on mine (the Kimber part is not conducive to a proper high grip), and now Kimbers come with that stupid firing pin block.

The Les Baer guns are, in my opinion, way overpriced. I think the average STI Trojan is probably a better gun than a comparable Les Baer for a lot less $$$.

Great looking pistol Alexii. Who did the work on it? Where did you get the grips? What does the saying on the grips mean?

Thanks, Eddie C.

Thanks, Eddie. The grips are the Ivory Polymer of Ajax Grips customized by www.gungrips.net. They do quality laser-etched grips for 1911s, Berettas, Rugers, and some models of S&W.

I just sent them a scanned image of a bookmark. The character is pronounced as "yong" and it means courage. I was drawn to its aesthetic qualities initially and eventually thought it would look great in a gun grip. These guys are very professional and prompt. The photos I posted don't do the grips justice.

Gungrips' Alumagrips line seems excellent for 1911s. A number of people have been raving about it at the 1911 forum.

Thanks guys! I wouldn't be surprised if the character depicts just that-- a charging warrior. I'll research on it.:)

5 best pistols to own

1. SIG P220- Try and find me a 1911 .45 half as reliable as this pistol (out of the box and shooting over 1000 rounds straight without any hiccups)

2. Beretta 92fs - Excellent 9mm pistol. Solid design, battle proven and efficient. Can chamber one directly in the pipe

3. Ruger GP100- Tank-like-toughness (sorry S&W but it's much stronger and will out live you in a shootout over time)

4. Glock 23 - This is overall best pistol in the .40 class-light, easy to clean and maintain, fits most all hands, tac rail, hi-cap availablity, aftermarket parts and info aplenty

5. CZ- extremely reliable, inexpensive, excellent value, battle proven
