Has anyone attempted to cut a rail into the frame of their Steyr? I havent measured but the front ends are blocky and appear to have enough material to cut an accessory rail. After having a gripped reduced glock I dont know why you couldnt modify the steyr to accpet one. Does anyone know how far the metal subframe extends into the front end or how thick the plastic is over it? I could see the problem of running into interference with the existing frame notches but that would be pretty easy to overcome. After my Steyr arrives Ill seroulsly consider doing it after determining whether its feasible or not.

The thought has crossed my mind, but if I seriously wanted a Steyr that would accept a light then I woudld just wait and get the M-A1.

There is an adapter available, but it would double the size of the light.

I believe everything ahead of the foward rail is all plastic, i just removed the steel subframe the other day. Look first though, that's what i remember I don't have the gun in front of me.

Flachef is right; the steel frame ends right in front of the safety.

I don't think there's enough material to do what you're talking about. You can already flex the sides of the dustcover inwards with moderate finger pressure; remove much and you won't any rigidity left to clamp to. Also, *do not* screw with the serial # plate, or BATFE will have you upside down by the short hairs!

Wouldn't it be easier to just notch a conventional mount to fit the Steyr?
