View Full Version : Bought a second Yugo SKS
I picked up a "like new" Yugo SKS today. Price was much higher than I liked ($199), but I actually traded another rifle even up for it. They also tossed in 5 boxes of ammo and a sling. No accessories other than there was a cleaning kit in the stock. I was hoping to get about $250 out of the rifle traded so I figure I lost at least $25 on the deal. It appears to have all matching stamped numbers, although I do see some electropenciled numbers on a couple of areas that also have matching stamped numbers. I like my other Yugo so much I just couldn't resist.
I forgot, anyone heard of W. Hunley Inc. NY? The dealer told me this rifle was a Century import, but it is marked as Hunley.

Doug, I haven't heard of W. Hunley, Inc. I'm sure they are a second tier importer or redistributor from what you've said, though.
I remember the good ole' days when a decent SKS could be had for $90.
Oh well.
Thanks for the info, I've not seen Hunley before. Maybe one of these days I'll stumble unto one of the unissued Yugos for $120. In the mean time I'll enjoy shooting the ones I have.:)

How are the yugos quality wise stacked up against other SKS variants?

Dang! I remember when SKS rifles were going for $75 each.;)
So do you think the Yugo is worth the money? and will all of the aftermarket goodies fit the Yugo? I found a couple of Chinese Sks rifle for $130 each and I know the goodies will fit them.;)

Better than most, IMO. I know there was a period where there were some fairly good quality Chinese SKS's all over the place, but I haven't seen these in a while.
The Yugoslavian SKS's are better than most of the Romanian ones I've seen, and these are the ones I most often see at the gun shows now. The triggers on most of the Romanian ones I've fired ranged from completely poor to atrocious, though none are great.
If the AWB sunsets in September, I'm sure we'll see some better quality SKS rifles available that accept high cap mags, and at better prices (fingers crossed) than we have in long time.
I agree, the quality of most of the Yugo's that I've seen have been above average. My recent acquisition is very nice with a perfect stock, matching numbers, & good bluing. If it shoots as well as it looks I'll be quite happy. As far as aftermarket parts, I'm not sure. From what I've been reading the Yugos are considered C&R so changing parts can conflict with federal regs (unless you start adding the correct American parts count). I'd highly recommend a Yugo, but look for a good one in the $150 range or a good shooter for close to $100.

mentions selling them for $89 each.
I had the Yugo out today for the first time. 100 rounds without a hitch. Got another keeper.
