I am looking to buy another Steyr before the cheap ones disappear and am wondering if an S9 would be significantly better than the M9 as a second gun. When I've held the S9 it didn't seem very much smaller than the M9 for CCW purposes.

I plan on getting a S something soon. For me the shorter barrle means less will stick out of the bottum of the holster, which means if my shirt raised up a little more than normal it would be less likely to be seen. Also when carrying IWB the shorter grip would be less likely so partrude from by side when I bend or twist.

But I'm actually looking into one of these (http://www.politesociety.com/#sport) to alieveate those problems. That and the fact that IWB is my favorite way to carry and now when I do it causes pain in my hip that runs all the way down my leg.

I have an M40 and an S40 and while the S40 doesn't seem that much smaller in the hand ... in the pants there is a SIGNIFICANT difference.

I don't print with the S40, but the M40's slightly longer grip sticks out like a sore thumb.

I have S and M9 and there is significant difference in feel and size. I can put S9 in my shorts pocket, and carry it that way. S9 is nothing more then a cut-down M9, it's 1/2 inch shorter on both front and bottom. I recommend both if you are going to buy them. Prices now are rediculously cheap, so hurry. :)

I am looking at either the M9 or S9. How does the S9 compare to a 19 or 26?

thanks

I'm going for the S40.

BTW The S-series will continue to be produced and imported "as is" for the next year according to the things I've read about the M-A1

Anybody have any idea when the M-A1 will be available for purchase?

Supposed to be in the USA this summer. It may take a few months for them to tricke through the importer to the distributors.

What about cost? Going back up to a 'fair market' price to compete with Glock and the others?

I think the M-1A will have a MSRP of $600+, actual fair market price may be lower, but doubtful it will be anywhere near what CDNN is selling them for now.

I (foolishly) paid 360 for my recent s40 purchase. I hadn't heard about CDNN before finding the Steyr club on Glock Talk. I still think I got a great deal, though. From what I have seen on this site and others, the Steyr pistol series is worth every penny. BTW, how would one go about ordering from CDNN - I do not have an FFL-do I have to have the gun shipped to a local dealer and pay them to 'handle' the transaction, or is there another way?

Thanks for the info on the size of the S&M series. I remember holding a M series once and it was similar in size to my 19. The confusion was that a guy I talked to said that the full-size M was comparable to the 17 and the compact S was similar to the 19.

You're correct, the M9 is comparable in size to the G19.
