I have one more question about Ak47's. Since my range won't allow the use of steel cases, what are some cheap brass types of ammo availible? I found a type called "Cheetah" on impact guns. Is this any good?

Yes, it is good ammo.
Unfortunately it is made in Zimbabwe so many won't buy it because they refuse to support that thug Robert Mugabe in any way.

Are you sure it's the cases the range won't allow or the copper washed steel bullets? My closest indoor range could care less about the case but checks all Russian ammo with a magnet to see of the bullet has a steel bullet hiding under that copper wash. The reason is the steel back stops at the range and the possibility of ricochetes.

Wolf makes a brass jacketed round available in 7.62x39. Cheaper than Dirt has them sometimes but J&G Sales usually has them on hand. Many ranges have no problem with the brass jacketed rounds.

If it is indeed the steel cases the range is concerned about can you explain why that is? I'm curious. Thanks.

Cheers!

not nearly as cheap as the Russian stuff but I picket up 1000 rnds of American eagle from outdoormarksman.com can't find it there anymore.

ammoman.com has it for 199.00 (including shipping)

nothing like the $84/1000 of the wolf or anything like that.

Cheetah from Zimbabwe is the only game in town right now for inexpensive brass cased 7.62x39mm. It is fsr superior to any american made x39mm.

This past December I wrote to Wolf at wolfammo.com and asked about the composition of their bullets. Below is their reply:

WOLF does not import any steel core ammunition. The range officer probably used a magnet to test the bullet and since it stuck to the projectile he believed it was steel core. Your friend probably had our 7.62x39 bimetal jacketed ammunition. Our bimetal jacketed ammunition has a steel, and copper jacket, and the magnet was sticking to the steel used in the jacket. The core is lead in all of our calibers. You, and your friend will need to
make sure you purchase the copper jacketed ammunition, there is no steel in the jacket. Our copper jacketed ammunition is just like the more expensive domestic ammunition in that the jacket is entirely made up of copper, and will pass the magnet test at the range.

Thank you for your inquiry and interest in WOLF Performance Ammunition.

Sincerely,

WOLF Ammo
