After messing with several different types of rail systems I finally settled on the UltiMak for my AK. It works great the problem is with red dot scopes. I just put a BSA RD-30 on it to start. It was cheap and allowed me to co-witness with my iron sights. Once sighted in it works great. Until they break! It's the same story. They work fine for 200-300 rounds then the dot will pop in for one shot out for the next. Finally it just dies. BSA has sent me three new ones under warranty. I talked to them about it today. They agreed the recoil from the 7.62x39 should not be breaking these things. Anybody else have the same experience with these things? It also did the same thing to a more expensive NCstar scope. I just put my Tasco pro point on it today. It cost about 3 times what the BSA's do but works fine. Only problem is it must be mounted with rings so I can't co-witness with my iron sights. So are the BSA's just garbage or is their something about the UltiMak mount that makes it rougher on red dots?

My BSA RD30 worked fine on my shotgun which kicked like a mule with slugs so it got a good workout. It now resides on my Ruger MKII and works just fine.

For the scope I mounted on my UltiMAK I went with a cheap Target Sports (also known as NC Star, apparently made in the Tasco factory) 30mm, and mounted it with a set of 1/8" high 30mm NC Star rings (supplied rings are too high). I have 240 rounds through the gun with this setup and it shows no signs of breaking yet.

Once I get a bipod and can actually shoot it for some groups I will report more about its reliability and ability to hold zero.
