Anybody know of a good solution to mounting a flashlight on the AK? My current solution is duct tape. It works, but I'd like something a little less, uh, tacky.

I'm getting ready to experiment with adding a picatiny rail to the bottom of my barrel. A scope ring for a 1" diameter tube fits a lot of populat lights out there so that is probably what I will try.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thats a pretty expensive light, and it uses AA, I would rather have one that used CR123a's. It also looks to be fairly large compared to the typical weapon light.

I'm thinking about a Pelican M6 LED as the light to mount on my AK. Very bright, the batteries are good for about 20 hours, and the bulb will never blow from recoil.

I may have come up with a solution to mounting one on my AK, so I'll keep you informed.

Yeah, I agree ---> that light/mount is expensive. I was more pointing out the mount to see if that is what you had in mind...

A mount like that would be great for someone who wanted the light on it permenantly. I was looking for the picatinny rail type mount so that I could take the light off and slap on a bipod or something.

Might be just what TomV needs though.

Nah, too big and heavy and costly. I'd love to get some kind of rail forend, but I haven't seen any. What I'd really like is something like this

but this appears to be an Airsoft accessory. I think Knight's or somebody makes an AK RIS, but it's about $300.00, which is a bit rich for me.

There are a few others as well.

Who is the manufacturer? I don't use ebay.

Anybody out there have one of these? Are you happy or disgruntled with it?

Seems to me like it ought to heat up pretty quickly after a couple of magazines. Wouldn't it tend to melt anything that was hooked up to it?

There is a flashlight mount for the Triple Rail mount above, it is about 1/3 of the way down the page...

http://www.centuriontactical.com/picatinny-rail-ak-47.htm there is a place that sells the rail mount also. I am currently looking for one for my future ak also. One that fits my x200 would be fine with me :)

That's exactly what I was looking for. Time to unlimber the ol' Visa card. I'll post an eval after I've had time to wring it out.

Here’s what I did when I wanted a tactical light for my AK (MAK-90)… I wanted a “pressure switch pad” for my light…

Here’s the thread I posted a little while back with all the details & pictures:

http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=225078&highlight=MAK90+light

FYI, now that I've had the light on for a while & put some rounds through my set-up, I REALLY like it... it has done VERY well!

I've been trying to figure this out for weeks, and since my deal fell trhough for a clamp in picatinny rail, I had to come up with something on my own.

I cant believe I hadnt thought of this yet, but I dug out the barrel clamp that came with the tube extension for my shotgun, and guess what, works great! Bonus is that it had a sling stud on it, since I removed the sling mount from my gas block anyway.

The light is one of those cheapass chinese made ones you see on Ebay. I got it for $10.10, shipped, from Hong Kong, so I figured what the hell. The reflector gave it a kinda crappy beam, so I took the lens off and covered the reflector with aluminum foil (crumpled for texture) and it actually projects a good flood beam with a warm center now, which is perfect for lighting a whole room up.

TDI makes a rail system for the AK with lots of options

I've been researching a tactical light for my SLR-95 also.

And while I like the "Triple Rail" system I could not ascertain its origin of manufacturing--which is important to any of us who've modified their AKs to have a true pistol-grip configuration in compliance with 922-r. If it turns out the "Triple Rail" is not of US-origin, I would be in violation of 922-r, as my US-made handguards were one of my replacement US-made parts.

So, I settled on paying a little more and purchasing a Surefire "Classic" barrel-mounted system using a Surefire 6P (with shock-isolated bezel) which I already owned. The Surefire parts involved are (for those interested, all Surefire parts code in parenthesis): "M14" barrel-mount, "M10"-light ring, "S06"-tape switch, "11690-1"-end bezel. All-in-all, cost about $150 sans the actual light.

I know it expensive, but my solution for a rock-solid light mount was hampered by the need also for 922-r compliance.

The parts on order, I'll post pics if anyone shows interest.

I believe Ultimak makes a rail fore-end as well, and a $35 SureFire G2Z with rings would do the trick.
