View Full Version : Shutterbug's club
I know there have to be more of us than just me who are budding (or experienced) photographers. Who'd be interested in starting a shutterbug club -- a place for questions, answers, equipment reviews, and maybe photo critiques.
Strangely enough, I had to log in again trying to post here. Hm.
Anyway, sure, that would be nice. Does it require 50 signatures? Is there a difference between a club and a forum?
It probably requires 50, like any of the other rooms,forums/etc (pick a term, any term) in the clubhouse.
I'd be interested. I shoot both modern (digital) and ancient (35mm). I'm always interested in learning more.
judging by the amount of reply vs view in this thread (http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=244203), i'd say most GTers are not camera people.

I am!
Was big into photography in HS, haven't really been into it in the last few years but the itch is building every day.
I consider myself a solid amateur. Never could afford my own darkroom, but when people see my stuff they say "wow, that could be a postcard" I love that~

Photography used to be my first incarnation, actually (my first college major and first job), but economic realities forced changes later on, and I ended up spending most of my adult productive life in high tech. Still, photography is a great mental escape for me. I substituted digital darkroom for wet darkroom and love it just as much if not more. Ability to catch moments like this one: (shot today during a hike with a 100mm-equivalent lens) (http://www.pbase.com/image/28803998) puts all the corporate bs and job worries in their proper, insignificant place.

Let's post examples, maybe it'll gain some votes. Quick way to get some cool backgrounds...
If you would like to see this forum, please speak up! You don't have to be an expert, you just should enjoy photography. I also see this as a great way for amateurs like me to get tips from you serious hobbyists and professionals.

;f hile,maybe 46 people are interested.If we could get 4 more....^3
Getting my digital pictures finely focused is a must... ;f
I hardly have the time to make this post, because I've spent the
last six months trying to learn to use my digital camera. Maybe
It's the Manual?....Let's see, It's written in French, Italian,
German and English!
Just maybe my problem is that after Iraq, I cut the French section out after just a bit too much Black Velvet! Unfortunately under
the influence of BV, The English section was the one cut up.
How's my excuse for being a camer idot holding up?...Not very
good I think!
I'm in I vote yes

Thank you, but I'm not really a professional, although I have done a few jobs for pay. I just spend a lot of time doing it, although I did spend a few years in school working for the newspaper. I'm going to give the obvious career a chance before I become a possibly-starving photographer. :)

Add my vote!
We just picked up a Fujifilm FinePix S5000 Z and I'm very excited to learn how to use it. It's a great looking camera. It's completely deffernt from what I'm used to.
Hi, All, I am either shooting guns or a Canon 1D (sometimes up to 3 1D at the time if I set them on remote). I am intersted in this club, what do I need to do to join? Ben

I have been dabbling in the various aspects of photography for over sixty years, and fooled with many types of cameras from the Kodak box camera to more expensive and sophisticated Licas and now the digital... but have never been good at it, that's why I think it is a good idea to get some good advice from the pros - and I think we do have a few of them here who would love to share their knowledge. So, how about it folks, can we keep this idea moving? Please, lets get more votes and get this club going, before I kaput.

... OK, I have an idea - Since both the Shutterbug's Club and the Optics Club seem to be going no where fast, why not combine them and call it "Through-the-Lens Club"... both deal with optics. What say you, Sidearmor?
That's a good idea, I think.

I just want to have a place to post my cool pictures, and see other cool pictures.
Hm. Not to dissuade anyone from posting pictures, but if we create a club where primary posts will be pictures, we will clobber Eric's drive in no time. Perhaps we could post URLs to wherever we keep the photos on the web instead?
Just an idea.

06-12-2004, 01:30
My photos would all be hosted on my own server space.

06-12-2004, 10:02
i have my own web server. if people wanted to post/share pics, i don't mind helping them out. if interested, PM or email me. of course, this would all be free-of-charge for my fellow GT'ers...;Y
I would go so far as to say disable attachments in the shutterbug club entirely. URLs to pictures, good; attached pictures, not good. We would end up hosing both eric's bandwidth and DB space in short order.

Agreed on shared club and "URLs-only" policy. hile's point about bandwidth is a good one which I forgot to mention in my original remarks.

I hope Sidearmor is watching this thread and give us the nod, if it's OK with you all. I see no conflict between the two subject matters, as long as we follow the threads. What say you, Sodearmor?
Along the same lines, anybody have a problem with Kevin and me being mods of the combined club since we suggested the original constituent clubs? That is, of course, if Kevin woudln't mind volunteering as a mod. (Don't want to speak for you, man.)
