I heard that Steyr was having some problems with QC towards the end of its standard M series run. It also seems that they are upgrading their pistol and continuing to market it. Is there any truth to the first and do I understand the second correctly?

Those of you that own them, are they really as low in recoil as everyone says? They also seem to be accurate, is that correct in your experience? How would you characterize the trigger action? What about the ergonomics and sights? Do any of you pack your Steyr?

Thanks.

Well, the initial Steyrs had some trigger trouble, but that was correcting in models after the 10,000th. Steyr is modifying their design into the MA1-Series to make it more practical. For instance, it will have a standard accessory rail, a upgraded grip, and a couple of other changes to broaden its product appeal. So, yes Steyr is still producing their pistol. The rumors of company problems were a result of the factory they were using, but they have got a new base of operations and are churning out pistols again.

Also, the original Steyr retailed for about $600 so the initial sales were slow. However, Steyr changed their approach and lowered their cost to the point that they were selling them for close to half that price to get their product on the market and in the hands of shooters to try out. The Steyr is catching on now........I've noticed a increased rate of ownership in the last year or so just because of the lowered cost.

Just to sum it up........the recoil in my .357sig model feels almost like I'm shooting a 9mm. It is superbly accurate out of the box......about like a SIG. The trigger has a shorter reset than the Glock and is a crisp 4.5lbs. The grips moulds into your hand and the trapazoidal sights allow for some good precision, yet fast shooting. I carry my Steyr on a daily basis.;f
