I've got a Norinco Mak-90.I was just curious how it compares to the other AK's? Is it any better, worse or just about the same as the SAR-1 and the WASR rifles. It seems to shoot ok and it never jams so I don't guess I can complain, the only thing that sucks about it is that crappy thumbhole stock.Anyway I was just wondering if I'd be any better of with one of the other ak rifles.

MK-90's are supposed to be made from a thicker steel stamping, and the triggers are awesome. I agree, the thumbhole stock sucks, but you can upgrade to a pistol grip stock if you buy US made mag followers and bases to put in the mags you use with the gun, and a US made stock set. (just one of the many ways to legally do it)

I've got a stamped MAK-90. Easily the nicest AK you'll shoot, super tough and as mentioned actually has a nice trigger. Mines seen a lot of shooting, have never experienced a jam, breakage, malfunction of any kind. I wouldn't be to put off by the thumbhole stock, the extra weight and recoil pad keep your shoulder nice and comfy. You could always upgrade to a pistol grip stock set if you're insecure about the way it looks ;f

Mak90s are one of the best deals going IMHO. They were quality made rifles (for an AK) that got caught up in the stupid period at the beginning of the ban. They were regular rifles that got stuck with the crappy thumbhole. That is not a big deal to remedy.

SAR-1s are fine for bullet hoses, but I think the MAKs are nicer quality.

I have 5 MAKs (3 are kits), 2 SARs and 1 pre ban Norinco.

Ain't nothing wrong with Chinese! I have both a Norinco and a Sar-1. The barrel is heavier on the Norinco and I like the fact that it is blued finish vs. spray on finish.

Any one know where I can get a barrel for my mak? It is slightly bent and should be replaced.

You can occasionally find them on Ebay.

Since the barrel is heavier on the Norinco does that mean that they can't be threaded using the same threading dies that would work on a romanian rifle. Also would they use diffrent stocks.I think I could probaly get the other stocks to fit with a little modification but I was hoping they would just work the way they are.Thanks.
