What is the story with Arsenal Inc.'s SAS-7. How would this compare with the VEPR-K as to quality.

It's SA M-7S. It's made in America with Bulgarian tools. Arsenal Inc. also imports Bulgarian-made AKs with some US parts swapped in for that pistol grip/stock look under the SLR name.
How does it compare to the VEPR series? The camps are divided. I am more of the Bulgarian type than the Russian type. But flip a coin to decide because they are both high-quality brand new AKs. Or in the case of the VEPR, RPKs.

Comparing the Vepr to any other Ak is really an apples to oranges matchup. As FN mentioned, the Vepr is based off the RPK machine gun not the AK. Therefore, its much heavier and the VEPR receeicer is not square cut to accept standard pistol grips or buttstocks. VEPRs tend to be pretty accurate though...
IMO one of the great attributes of the AK design is that its a lightweight carbine. Therefore, for me, the milled receivers are a detractor. AK's were disgned to be stamped...the milled variations were an interim fix because the Russians found out that stamping sheetmetal receivers wasn't as simple as they thought. (The folks at H&K could have told them that too!) In any case, there's mothing wrong with a milled receiver except for weight and I've heard they are subject to cracking... Of course the Vepr is a stamped receiver.
