Just a quick question for anyone that has both an M40 and an M357...which is more accurate? I was over in the Top Guns room reading about the 357 Sig, and it seems that many think it is inherently more accurate than a 40. Has anyone noticed this with the Steyrs?
I would like to hear how the two cartridge compare, using the same platform and same shooter.

In one word NO.

I have M40 w/ seperately purchase M357 barrel and it is no more or less accurate 40S&W vrs 357sig. 25yrds and combat distance accuracy is the same.

I will admit single strong arms presentation with the 357sig are somewhat better and follow-ups are more closer group'd at 5yrds or less but other than that, no big advantages. BUT weak side only netted no big difference ( I equally suck with both rounds ).

Bot cartridges presents equal performance an neither are tack driver or can shot the wings off a fly.

I've got both and although I think they are equally accurate, right now I shoot better with the M-40....for two reasons.

1) The trigger on my M-40 (serial #179xx) seems to be smoother than my M-357 (serial #198xx). I'll work on the sear/firing pin interface of the M-357 with some polishing compound soon. Don't worry, no metal will be removed!

2) My M-40 has the standard sight picture with the night sights. I prefer these over the triangle/tradezoid stock sights. My M-357 is at the 'smith right now getting a pair of the trilux sights installed that I bought from www.usasteyr.com

As far as calibers go, I prefer the .357 Sig. -- especially with the Cor-bon Pow'Rball ammo (1600 fps and 568 ft/lbs.)
