Only this time it relates to the owners. What does the choice of firearm say about the owner.

My take - AR owners, anal and uptight. Always cleaning, polishing and buffing, worrying about 1/4 moa ability and shooting off the bench. Hang a bunch of expensive gizmos on the end of it.

AK guys - laid back, bump firing, no cleaning, throw it in the trunk types. Cheap rifles shooting lots of cheap ammo.

What's your take?

In general, yes. But what about those who own both? (BTW, I own only an AK, not an AR. I do have a Mini though, so I guess I strengthen the AK type with that gun. ;f )

I cleaned one of my ARs tonight. It had been over 9 months/600+ rounds; I felt sorry for it (and a tiny bit guilty).

I clean all of my guns at least annually, whether they need it or not.

Another myth bites the dust. :)

I would own an AK, I just prefer the AR and own one. I wouldn't call myself "anal" though. I am not the kind of guy that tricks out his guns, I like them to work the way they were built.

I own both and enjoy both for different reasons.

I love the AR design for it's modularity and because it's what our boys usually carry. I love the AK for it's elegant design and the fact that it is the most produced piece of machinery on the planet.
Cheap ammo is a plus!

I have a few of both also. I do seem to worry more about caring for my ARs though. Definitely have a lot more money tied up in them. I enjoy them all.

This was my attempt at a minor fluff thread, not to be taken to seriously. But it sure does seem like the AR guys are pretty anal.

Corvette vs. Chevette...which of THESE owners is more anal?

I think it is a little deeper than that. I love the AK design but shudder at the lack of QC in the execution. I think Krebs might be my answer - at which point my AR is simply for posterity, and maybe my wife.

That can't be quite true? Wouldn't there be more automobiles, or bicycles... or telephones or any number of things?

How many AKs have actually been made?

Actually, I had a Ranch model, stainless with black plastic, a nice red dot (aimpoint?) 35 round eagle mags, etc. Sold it to my Dad for $500, the whole package.

It fed flawlessly which was great, since it took 10-15 rounds to hit the damn target :)

Accuracy left... something to be desired. Maybe you got a good one.

mine has been modified... Trigger job, different bushings, tuned gas block, bedded, muzzle brake. I don't have any groups, but it's reliable and I can hit what I aim at.

So you spent enough to buy a new Rock River arms AR that would have cost $825.00 and promised 1 moa... and had 30 round mags available CHEAP.

I learned to stop doing that! There is hope! :)

no, I didn't spend more then $100 on accurizing it... and only $400 on the gun to begin with.

I've heard estimates from 50 million to 250 million.

I heard once that there were 2 cars for every man, woman & child in the US. Existing cars. I think I heard it on NPR.

Hmmm... Google time...

Google says 200 million registered.

I had AR's. I cleaned them as little as possible. I hate cleaning guns. I love shooting them... I hate cleaning them.

So I'm off to buy an AK. I'm hoping to clean that even less! ;f

No, I just accurized it... I sure as hell don't want to own any gun that you can't get wood furniture on. Thats why I picked the mini 14. I'll never have a gun w/ a synthetic stock except for handguns(polymer frames!)
