Just got my Steyr M-9 today. Brought it home and gave it a cleaning and a shot of oil. I found the weapon to be very well built with great fit and finish. The trigger was very good with just a little creep. The sights I will have to get used to but I do like them a lot. I was a little unsure about the safety, but my wife picked the gun up and found the safety very appealing. Maybe I have worked too many years with weapons that have a "normal" safety, that it was harder for me to see the benefits of this type.

The gun felt great in the hand and pointed the best of any of my many handguns. I took the weapon and the four hi-cap mags to the range and put 150 rnds. of Federal 115 grn. FMJ through it. No malfunctions, low recoil, extremely fast follow-up shots. Also happy to find no empty shell casings striking me in the face. After getting used to the sight picture I was able to easily shoot one hole groups at 10 yrds. Every bit as accurate as any of my Glocks. I did find that two of the mags. failed to lock the slide back when empty, but I am thinking my thumb may have been riding the slide lock lever and not allowing it to do its job. I have that same problem with Glocks. I have very large hands and sometimes have trouble keeping my thumbs out of the way of the controls.

I really liked the feel of the grip. Both the angle and the texture. I did not find it slippery at all.

Over all I am extremely happy with my new purchase. I am already planning my next range session.

I put on Permit-to-Carry classes and originally purchased this weapon so the students would have another weapon to try out and use. Just another option for them to look at for a personal weapon. I also sometimes supply weapons for some of the students that don't have one yet. For the price, I thought this weapon would fit the bill nicely. Now I find I like it too much and might have to get greedy and keep it all to myself.

As I have said before...

Welcome to the Cult of the Steyr;N ;F

Don't be greedy man, buy one for yourself then share the addiction with your students.;)

If you are like many of us -- you will not stop at "just one". My first was an M40, followed by the M357 two weeks later.

I just couldn't get aclimated to the stock triangle sights. So, I use the factory night sights and like them for the "traditional" sight picture.

Now you'll just have to buy a Steyr for EACH of the students in your classes
