Another 100 rounds through my new M-9 today. The question I have is this. While dry firing the weapon last night, I found that approx. 1 time out of 10 trigger pulls I found the trigger pull to feel much heavier than normal. I also observed the slide to actually move back slightly just prior to the trigger letting off.

I remembered my Glock 34 did the same thing and I found the problem to be small pieces of brass (primer) in the firing pin channel. I detail stipped the slide (thanks to great directions found on this sight) and sure enough I found some brass slivers in the firing pin channel. I also found the firing pin spring to feel very rough when I pinched it together. After some work and a little oil on the firing pin spring, I put everything back together and now find the trigger pull to be very smooth and crisp. No further problems with 100 rounds of Winchester white box today.

I did contact Steyr Customer Service Department (1-800-896-4867) and the gentleman said he had heard of this only a few times and if the problem come back, to make sure and let them know and they would take care of any problems. He also stated that these weapons work best when kept very clean and using a light oil. No gun grease. Seems to gum up the gun somewhat. Very nice people to deal with. Overall I am now more impressed than ever with this weapon.

Final note: I have seen several threads regarding "no drop safety" on this weapon. The parts drawing of the weapon does have a drop safety on the drawing. Is this a new item on these weapons? Or was the design just that good from the start.

Sgt, thats the same similiar experience I had with mine on the trigger feeling. I found out that if I go a loooong time with out cleaning and oiling the tigger get's very tight.

I always add a drop of oil on the sear item at the back of the frame. This helps out in smoothingback out the all so superior steyr trigger.

I did a little work on my M40 to improve the trigger even more than it was -- which was very good.

I used N0.7 White Polishing Compound, a Dremel with a small felt buffing wheel on the lowest RPM setting -- and polished the "pyramid area" of the sear and the corresponding "lug" on the firing pin.

NO METAL WAS REMOVED! The areas were just polished to a mirror shine. Everything was cleaned and Millitec-1 Synthetic metal Conditioner was applied.

The difference in trigger pull was impressive.

And, yes -- I feel this pistol is safe to carry with a round in the chamber!

I did pretty much the same thing as flyandscuba, only I used flitz. I went a little furthur and polished all the moving surface within the trigger group as well. I don't have a trigger guage, but I'd guestimate the pull at less than 5 lbs. and very crisp. Again, no metal was removed, just smoothed out a bit.

My parts drawing has a "drop safety" pictured on it. Not sure what that means.

I am a glock armorer, I am impressed with some of the features on this weapon over the glock. I also see many similarities. Very interesting concept.

For the price this is a great weapons buy. For twice the price this would still be a great weapons buy in my opinion.

The ergonomics on the weapons are great. I was point shooting (no sights used) 12 ga. shotgun shells (empties) at 7 yrds. and having an amazing hit ratio as they were tossed around the berm at the range. As soon as the shell would touch down from being shot with the first round, it was sent flying again with the second. It seems as though it hits exactly where you are pointing far better than any handgun I have shot.

yeah part number 32 to right of the sear. keeps sear from releasing when it shouldnt and release the firing pin.

I call it sear safety myself.

Silly question....not meaning to hijack the thread, but being new to Dremeling, I was wondering how yous know if metal is removed or not during polishing?

Thanks.
