Well, I called Van Wagenen Finance & Guns in Orem, UT. today to get a quote on the G37. Now before I go any further, it's important to note that the guy there's usually pretty crusty, not very knowlegeable when you put him to the test (he'll usually admit it), BUT (and it's a big "but") the prices are usually among the best anywhere -PERIOD- most of the time. And they should be since I'm told that he sells about as many guns as anyone in Utah.
I'll quote what I was told as closely as I can and although it may not be perfect it'll be very close. I asked if they had a new G37 in. Almost immediately and very enthusiastically I was told, "I don't carry that, that's a doggy caliber, why do you want that, it's a doggy caliber, there's .40, .357, and so much, that's just a doggy caliber, I don't carry anything in that doggy caliber." I began to ask if he likes the ACP and was abruptly cut off by the statement (can you guess?) "that (the GAP)is just a doggie caliber, no, I won't carry that doggie caliber, bye -then he hangs up-".
Well folks, this is what we're up against in our efforts to see the success of what to me at least is the realization of a brilliantly conceived/overdue caliber. We've seen the mentality of those who actively attack the GAP (or ANY CALIBER FOR THAT MATTER), but I had to share this just to show another example and establish what we already knew. It's especially sad when a retailer takes such an absurd approach.
Well I guess he was right somewhat, maybe it is a doggy caliber, afterall this is the Bull Dawgs Club. ;g
Well this is certainly no attitude I've not experienced before......definately from Glock Talk. However, for him to be so stubborn about it to the point that he wouldn't sell a firearm that would turn him profit is downright amazing. I guess he figures that ppl come to buy a gun, and if they don't see a .45gap pistol, they will simply go with something else from his selection........thus he does his part to keep our streets free of that "doggie" caliber.;Q What the heck does he mean by doggie caliber anyhow?
The best thing you can do is tell him that you are ONLY interested in buying a G37 and if he doesn't have it you'll take your business somewhere else.:)
a good business man is the one who will sell an item at a profit :)
the guy must be a doggy dog idealist ;f
i was at a shop looking for used Glock. guy behind the counter said well i don't have any used one since i just sold the last used one, but we have the new glock 37 ;)
A little help here...
I promise you guys I am not being contrary, but someone educate me.....what is the 45GAP for? I'm not against new calibers. I don't think it's "doggie". I'm just needing some info on the caliber. What niche does it fill (or is it it's own niche?)? Please don't take my question the wrong way, I jus' gotta know!
Thanks...

Read up on this website:

The .45gap is basically a .45acp in a shorter package. It has equal performance to the .45acp, and can be loaded hot to achieve .45acp+P performance and greater(.45gap 230gr at 1000fps). Everything else you could desire to know is on that website.;f

Unfortunately the guy in our example gets so much business he really doesn't care if I take my business elsewhere. He's well known as grumpy and downright unpleasant a lot of the time (not all the time)...
As for what niche the .45 GAP fills, yes, Pete's page say A LOT, but for me the question is more what -PRACTICAL HUMAN DEFENSIVE- niche doesn't it fill? Like M96er said... It'll do what the .45 ACP will do (MAYBE even a little more) and it does it all from a gun the size of a 9mm/.40/.357 Sig, etc.
In any subject, if you take what's commonly considered the best and improve on it, even if it's small improvements, I just don't understand what's to dislike---let alone energetically fight against ;5 . Afterall, the above describes the essence of the AGP and it's critics at this point in it's development.

Hardehardeharharhar! The reason he "gets so much business" is because he knows a dog when he sees one! ;)
That's a joke, guys. If I owned a gun store, I'd carry the G37!

Walter,
I honestly believe that you were just joking. But, I've gotta tease you a little bit because you do a lot of "joking" that often gets a rise out of people but you're always careful to ad the smiley face as if that'll get you off the hook no matter how relentless you are or in some cases no matter what you say.
Still, I honestly believe your post was well meaning this time. You're right though, at least he knows a dog when he sees it. Trouble is that nobody explained to him the old addage that dog is man's best friend. ;Y
Walter is just waiting till he can get a used G37 at a reasonable price then he'll do a 180 in attitude.;) He used to be a G30 man, now he's a G26 man,.....soon, he may be a G37 man.

You might be right; there WAS a time when I frequently referred to 9mm's as "peashooters" and swore that I'd never own one.
I'd have added a :), but I thought maybe I should get permission from "somebody" first!

Have you tried any other retailers in Utah? There are more than a few up in the Salt Lake Valley that may stock them. I know that Sportsman's Warehouse carries the .45 GAP ammo.

KWB,
Thanks for the post. I just hoped I'd be able to get it for the $450 that I anticipated I would have, if he had been carrying it.
