I am looking for any and all advice/reviews on the Steyr M9. CDNN is running an amazing sale on them and I'm thinking about getting one, but I'd like to hear everyone's experiences with them or general tips and tricks about them or recommended accessories. Thanks in advance!
I can't tell you much about the M9 but I have two M357s and my wife got another 2 M357s. Amazing guns!

So far everything I've heard and read has been great and the price really can't be beat. I think I might haveta grab one before they are all gone. My only hesitation would be getting replacement parts if they are out of production. I guess I should order a few extra magazines.

Great quality and accuracy on my M9 doesnt seem to be as good as the guns with dot sights I have used but that may be me. I was shooting at 225 yards and the triangle sights allow me to shoot better at those distances so I think I have to get used to it.
I had extractor issues with mine the first time at the range, but didnt check the extractor pin to see if the shorter chamfered part was facing the outside of the gun (I readjusted it and tore down the gun after) so that may be the issue. Also, clean and oil the firing pin channel, that REALLY made my trigger a lot nicer. Id say that it went from a 5.5lb down to more of a 4.5lb pull and much smoother. I had brass chunks all over the innards of my gun probably due to the extractor. Hopefully I dont have the problems with it next time at the range.
Also, Steyr USA seems to be very good about getting parts to people and when the new M comes out, there should be plenty of mags since they should be interchangable.

My wife really likes hers. It used to be "mine", but the first day at the range, she took it. Expect about a 500 rd breakin period. Get some extra mags, while they are cheap. What little I have shot it, I like it too.

Matt,
I didn't like the triangle/trapezoid sights, so I've got the factory night sights on my M40 & M357 -- they provide a "traditional" sight picture. I ordered mine from the www.usasteyr.com website.

Best non-custom gun I have shot out of the box, especially the trigger. I have only 350 rounds so far without cleaning the gun, but no problems of any type so far.
Yep,
Can't go wrong... for the money, the quality is great!
In regards to parts... http://www.usasteyr.com has everything and is very easy to deal with; I am from Canada and ordered items from them to a US address, so I am sure you'd have an easier time than me.
They'd have your extra magazines for sure.
In regards to aftermarket items... there are not many to choose from. This is the biggest drawback with the Steyr.
But, you can get a .40S&W or .357SIGH barrel from the factory and just drop them in... how cool is that?
The trigger is great too!

I actually like the sights as I can aquire a target from a draw much faster due to the huge triangle, but am more accustomed to traditional sights. Wish they had the night triangle sights.
For the money, the Steyr is a good gun, if mine had it's extractor issues resolved (which they may be, will see when I get to the range) it would be a good gun on par with the big boys, SIG, USPs, etc. A lot of people like the ergonomics as do I, but the grip feels too small for my hand (im used to USP 9mm with hogue handall).
350 rounds through mine that I just purchased from CDNN Investments. $279.00 with 4 high cap mags. (LE special). Great buy. Gun has been much more than I anticipated.
I purchased a Fobus paddle holster that is designed to fit the Sig229 and the S-series of Steyr. I took a nipper and clipped off about 1/8" of the indented portion of the bottom of the holster and the M-9 fits perfect.
$300.00 dollar investment and I have a perfect IDPA SSP rig. I usually use a Glock 34 when I go shooting or when I put on Permit to Carry classes. The M-9 has now replaced that gun. I like the ergonomics and the trigger much better. The loaded chamber indicator is nice also. I am only missing the front light rails and that is not a big deal for me. I have grown very accustomed to the sights on this weapon.
More holsters and accessories will be coming in the near future once this weapon gets into more peoples hands. I think this weapon system is one of the best buys in the gun world at this time.

Sgt,
What is the Fobus model number on that holster? Fobus shows 2 models (SG4 and SG21)for the Sig 229. I emailed Fobus but they didn't think those holsters would fit the Steyr M and their site doesn't show application for the Steyr S. Thanks for your help.

Blade Tech makes a great kydex holster for the Steyr M.

The hoster I have from Fobus is marked "SG229" but the package also says it fits "Steyer S-series". This is a paddle holster.

Sgt,
Does your SG229 look like this? This is the SG4 picture from Fobus site. The number on the left edge of the holster looks like it might say SG229. The pictures on the Fobus site for other models were clearer and they match the stated model number.
The Blade Techs are nice but I'll have to wait 3 weeks for them and pay more than twice as much. I like the Fobus I have for my Ruger. I am a little concerned about having to modified the Fobus for the M since based on the construction of the Fobus, there is probably a chance that I'll need to use the lifetime warranty which they probably wouldn't have to honor.
That looks like the one. I just trimmed that small part off of the bottom of the holster and the M-9 popped right in. You are correct that this would void any sort of warranty.
Please keep in mind that I am not advocating this as a full time holster. Fobus makes a great holster and I am sure they will soon make one just for the M-9. I did this for a short term set up that I could use for a little while for some classes I was putting on. Basically a set up where I could carry the weapon around on the range.
For me it works great for "now". I will be getting a better holster in the future.
I have a Fobus SG229 for sale on the Sig Forum.(Hope it's not inappropriate to post here.$15 shipped.)

Do you have any more info about the M9 holster from Blade-Tech?? When I search the Blade-Tech site, all that comes up is a Mag Pouch for an AUG.
I would like any info on holsters & Mag pouches for the M9, one's I could use for IPSC & IDPA matches.
Thanks,

they're not in alpha order. Pick the holster type you want. In the gun models dropdown, steyrs are right under the H&Ks.
Thanks for the Blade-Tech info!! I was looking at the injection molded holsters. I found both the holster & mag carriers!!
