Well, I got 100 more rounds through my new M9 (all Winchester White Box). It ejected onto my head more this time (I didn't clean it at all between range times), the good news is that it's not shooting left any more. I changed my grip a little different and for the most part I was able to shoot very accurately. The majority of my shots were still to the left of center, but they were pretty evenly dispersed, a lot more than my last time to the range where almost 85% where 6"-8" left of center. The other chanage I made was using a Hogue Hand All slip-on grip on the Steyr's grip frame. That made it much easier to grip correctly and is much less slippery when shooting. The first time I took it to the range I shot 125 rounds and the first nuckle of my thumb was bruised from the slight recoil, hitting hard against the frame. The Hogue grip seems to have helped a lot because I didn't notice it at all this time around. It also made the grip seem bigger and thicker, which is good because I have large hands that feel more comfortable with a big grip (like CZ-97 size grip).
How do I give the M9 a thorough cleaning? I want to clean the extractor and the firing pin, as I noticed little brass shavings underneath the slide from breaking in. Are there any online pictorals for disassembly past the basic slide, barrel and recoil assembly field stripping? I want to clean it very well to see if it will still eject onto my head. I'm sure it needs some more round to break in further too.
Help me figure out how to give her a good cleaning and I'm hoping that the next range report will be even better as I learn how to shoot her better. I'll post some pics one of these days.
