So I'm about to order my first 16" AR kit and I've decided I prefer the looks of the mid-length handguard over the standard CAR length. Are there any reliability issues regarding the mid-length and its gas port location? It's not as common as the very short CAR handguard so I'm wondering whether there are problems with it.

Anyone have a mid length?

I have one of the Rock River carbines with a mid length handguard. I've had no problems with it whatsoever. If anything it should theoretically be more reliable than the shorter gas system because there is more burned powder and more gas available to the port. I traded my Bushmaster shorty in on the Rock partly because I like the mid length handguard so much.

We've got an Armalite midlength and love it! No problems with FTE's for over 5,000 rounds so far. Enjoy your purchase.

Thanks everyone. Looks like this is the right choice for me.

plus you will get the added benifit of having a longer sight radius which leads to better accuarcy, using iron sights.
