Please don't consider this as a "reopening of a closed thread", as I've been meaning to clarify my frequent use of the term "bastid" Glock for some time now. I also feel that I owe an explanation to my fellow GTers whose opinions I respect and whose posts I enjoy.
The term "bastid", when applied in my posts to Glocks, only refers to those few Glocks that are not part of a family of Glocks within a caliber, in that they don't accept any magazines except those designed particularly for them. (the "bastids") That's not a big issue for making a decision as to whether one should buy a particular Glock or not, but it is a feature that I enjoy in my Glocks. I have never used the term "bastid" in connection with a Glock in a really serious manner. Like other of my misunderstood posts, Southron collegiate humor probably just flies right over the heads of those from certain other regions of the U.S.
I first used the term "bastid" to describe the G36. I don't like the G36 for a few specific reasons: (1) Doesn't fit my hand very well...feels funny in my hand, (2) revolver-like capacity, (3) got to believe that the paucity of slide mass makes for less-pleasant shooting than, for example, a G30.
I have truly been playing the "devil's advocate", hopefully not in a mean-spirited manner, regarding the G37. I might eventually own one. Now for a confession: My main "gripe" with the G37 has nothing to do with the design of the G37 (except I don't like the "off-balance" slide/frame relationship); has to do with the .45GAP, itself, and not the design of the pistol. As a reloader, I just don't want to experience getting that slightly-shorter-but-similar brass mixed up with my ACP brass. I also have the size hand that accommodates a G21's grip, when that grip is covered with a Handall covered with Agrip, so I don't have much motivation to spend any $$$ on a large pistol with a smaller grip and a lower mag capacity.
I can readily see how the .45GAP/G37 would be appropriate and desirable for many shooters, and I wish Herr Glock well on his venture. I'd be the last to criticize Herr Glock, because I have some inkling of what is required to start a business from scratch and make something significant out of it. Unless Glock gives huge incentive$ to l.e. agencies, however, I just don't see .45GAP replacing .40's (and you all know how I LOVE .40's) in l.e. applications.
And the word is "sesquipedalian", and I frequently add prefixes to it for applications that I deem appropriate. :)
Really enjoyed meeting Big Time, and dealing with him was a real pleasure. (Friend bought a beautiful Kimber from him and I went along for the ride.)
