Rhode Island State Police Transition to SIG SAUER® Pistols
SIGARMS dominates New England law enforcement market with Rhode Island contract.
EXETER, NH - Jun 3, 2004 - SIGARMS® Inc. announces that the Rhode Island State Police have completed their transition to SIG SAUER pistols. The model chosen by the agency for its safety, reliability and accuracy is the P226 with the new DAK trigger system, chambered in the 357 SIG caliber and featuring an M1913 Picatinny rail. The Rhode Island State Police is the first agency in the country to adopt the new DAK trigger system which is a double action only platform designed to provide safe and reliable performance with only a 6.5-pound trigger pull.
"The Rhode Island State Police has carried a double action only pistol (DAO) since 1993. The criteria for a new duty pistol were that it had to be safe, reliable and accurate. After testing and evaluation, it was determined that the SIG SAUER P226 DAK best met the criteria. The DAK trigger system provides all the safety and advantages of a double action only without any of the disadvantages, namely a long, hard trigger pull. Since November 2003, approximately 100,000 rounds have been fired through 200 duty pistols with no mechanical failures to report. This weapon has exceeded our expectations and has proven to be safe, reliable and accurate," said Sgt. James M. Manni, Rhode Island State Police Division Range Officer.
“SIGARMS dominates the New England law enforcement market with Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont State police all carrying SIG SAUER pistols. We are proud to add the Rhode Island State Police to this list of agencies that rely on the quality and reliability of our pistols,” said Jim Pledger, SIGARMS Vice President for Law Enforcement and military sales.
