Is that a .303 or .308?
I've heard that the .308 Ishapores may not quite be safe to fire--though as I personally own no Lee-Enfields, I'm not as up on them as I should be and could be talking out my rear end.
a 1940 ishapore no1mkIII here
anyone got a cheap bayo source for em?
my buddy has a nice 1931 no4mk1 T sniper

That's a .308 (actually 7.62 NATO).
In that they look so similar it's easy to expect the 2A Ishapore rifle are simply converted from #1's. As I understand it though, that's not the case, they were newly made with improved metalurgy to handle the Nato round safely. I've not done any research on the subject, but I think the 7.62 Ishy's were made during the mid 1960's.
It's a little hard to imagine that they would still be making a WW1 vintage rifle when the rest of the world was making modern rifles like the FN FAL, the M14, M16, and the AK47. Also, I would think that the least they could have done was to have made them in a #4 pattern instead of the #1.

I have a 1950-edition No4Mk2. Great shooter with a really nice action.
Edit to add...it's currently on the consignment block at a local gun store, gotta fund some other interests. If anyone is interested, PM me.:)

The easiest way to tell a .308 from a .303 is the .308 will always have a square magazine (not a slanted bottom like the .303).
The Indian police still issues Ishapore .308 SMLEs, during the mess with the temple-raiding where some people got killed by terrorists last year I think? I still saw quite a few cops with them.

I've got two.
A #4Mk1* & a #1Mk3 in 410. I like them both, but my fondness for wierd guns makes me lean a little more to the 410.

1916 MFG No 1 Mk 3, of course in good ole .303, good condition, with a wood chip or two showing it's BTDT. Big chunk out of the wood right at the end of the barrel.
Original configuation, full length wood and everything, I wouldn't have a milsurp any other way. I feel it's akin to defiling a piece of history. It would be, to me, like changing the engine on the Spirit of St. Louis, or turning a functioning T34 into an ATV or something. It just ain't right IMO.
Mine was a gift from a friend who owned one, that had been hunterized. I had told him that, "No offense, but I'd like to get one that hasn't been hurt (ie original condition)." For a graduation present, I got my wish.

I've handled a SMLE with tangent sight, brass marking disc on the stock, everything! Made in 1917, like new..... spotless condition. Unfortunately, it was not for sale. :)

The only picture of mine is the whole collection. The picture also includes my cz52 bringing up the right flank of the pistols.

And no comments on the AK scope ;f It's off now and back to the standard cover.

Me too! (as well as the other three too)
I saw the M10 a while back, but none had been imported at the time and I'd forgotten about them. Some neat stuff!

Shot mine today... ten rounds at 100 yards, sitting and prone. Was teaching a newbie to shoot. Went from 40 rounds of .22 LR to .303 British... as he put it, "THat's a real rifle!" he didn't mind the recoil too much after the first couple. We had little sightin targets but all of them would have been fatal on a chest sized target at that distance. Hot and windy.
