It seems to me that on GT there are not as many
.40 S@W fans as some other calibers.
I dunno, some of my local shops say that the .40 is the best seller.
But alot of people here seem down on the .40.
Whatever......I absolutely love my G22.
I have a G19 (carry gun), a G17 (range gun), and the G22 which I think the world of, and shoot occasionaly, and is my house gun.
The only reason the G17 is my range gun is because the 9mm is a little cheaper to shoot.
My next gun might be a G23 for carry.
Any way cheers to the .40!!! I really like my G22!

I live in Canada.Lot of .40 here.
I shoot .45acp.,38sp,.9mm,357 and.22.
I bought a Springfield loaded in .40 and love shooting that pistol.
My next pick is going to be a G35
my G22 is great! great caliber, i'm more comfortable with a 40 than a 9 ;)
G22/G27 here. The G22 is my go to gun. Thats the best endorsment I can give. I have others that I shoot, but the G22 is the one that I would grab if the SHTF. The G27 is a perfect partner and the best light weight, powerful, high capacity gun you can carry.

It's like being in favor of using cars. Everybody uses cars. So what?

10mm Lite? Why?
After finng 1911's I have gotten rid of alot of my guns. But the one that sits in the bed side safe with the M3 light us my G23. This is one gun I will never get rid of.

because we can, besides, 10mm is just as dead as the dinosaurs. ;)
I shoot 135's at 1500+ fps from my 40. 10mm? Why?
The 40 will hold its own when objectively viewed, plain and simple. Anyone that says different is biased beyond logic.
The bottom line: the best all rounder. But I don't trash any caliber anyway. ;)
The .40 S&W is by all accounts, an effective round for duty/defense and competition use. Looking strictly from a LE perspective, more data has been greatly ammassed in the last 10 years due to many officer involved shootings and the widespread use of the .40 is duty work. The .40 has proven itself to be a true contender between the effective 9mm and the old fan favorite, .45. Data amassed from LE officer involved shootings have been showing that the .40 is an effective stopper.
In a conference I attended last year, Dr. Gary Roberts admitted that for general LE use, the .40 was a suitable and sufficient round for use. Consider who Dr. Roberts is and that is high praise.
How many race guns do you see on the courses today firing the .40 S&W?
That being said, I am issued a G22, own my own G22 and two other Glocks in .40. It is what I shoot most, despite my love affair with my G21.
The .40 Glock model have been effective in stopping threats. The .40 S&W works as needed.

I love them! I own three of them. I have to say I think the G24C is by far my favorite gun. It shoots so smooth with No kick at all. I can make a center mass group of less than five inches at fifty feet - and thats not with my glasses on!

My first Glock (in fact, my first handgun) was a G22. I took my CCW training with it, and carried it for a while after I got my permit. I now use a 9 mm. for a CCW/home defense gun, but I still take the G22 to the range and fire 50 or 100 rounds through it before I practice with my 9 mm's. I enjoy shooting it.
My only hit on the G22 is that, at my height/weight, I find it a little large for CCW. That said, I may try carrying it next winter with a better holster than I've got for it now, and see if that makes a difference. I suspect it might.
And, if I find myself in the market for another Glock anytime soon, it will most likely be a G23.
The Glock 35 is one of the best pistols I've ever shot. And .40 Glocks are my favorite Glocks and my favorite .40 caliber pistols.
.40 gets bashed the most because people who don't shoot them "love" to hate them; so they are more vocal. The .40 isn't gonna go away. Too bad.

The G22 was my first gun as well. All my friends called me a fool and said the .40 would never last. Boy were they wrong! I bought it in Jan of 1994 and .40S&W hadnt taked off yet.

Their is also the accuracy issue, or lack there of.
I don't know where people get this idea.
I suspect that people who say it isn't accurate, actually have trouble managing recoil rather than actual accuracy of the gun/caliber.
I find the .40's very accurate.

I absolutely love my G23. Great gun.
A lot of differant firearms have came and went but the one that has always stayed with me is my G23.
I would have agreed that .40 is the superlative caliber for carry until this last weekend.
Then I shot a .357 sig for the first time and looked in amazement at the quarter size group of .38 caliber holes in the target. That quarter size group was dead in the center of my fist sized group from a .45 GAP, which itself was slightly smaller (only barely) than my .40 groups. I didn't like the .45 GAP because there was way too much up and left torque, instead of the straight up and down that I got out of the .357 sig and .40. But if I can get comparable or better power out of the .357 sig at the same recoil as the .40, why not do the switch?
On the other hand, when I change my mind again next year, the great thing about the Glock .40s is that a simple barrel change will let me switch back and forth between .40 and .357 sig to my heart's content.

I love my G23. It is the first Glock I ever owned and I still love shooting it.
I have never had a problem handling the .40SW's recoil so I am not sure why people are down on it in that respect. It is accurate enough, look at all the competetive shooters that use it in IPSC and IDPA.

Ammo expense is why I don't.

Yeah, that part stinks. The only upside is that I'll get an aftermarket KKM barrel with a tight chamber so the brass will last longer, the chamber is "fully" supported compared to a .40 (so the brass will last longer), so I can reload with more confidence. Having to lube the cases will be a pain.

Yeah, but for me there's more recoil, muzzle flip, flash, and I start to flinch after 50 rounds. I've tried the Glock 31 and SIG P226 and shot @ 800 rounds total. Compared to the G22 and SIG P226 .40 that's the experience I've had. I really tried to like it and I do, but I only like to shoot it on occassion. And yes, around here I can get good .40 range ammo for $9-10 while comparable .357 is $14-15 and they're never on sale. It just doesn't make sense for me.
I love the .40. My favorite cal overall. I have a 357sig barrel but I'm more accurate with .40 barrel and more confident in it's ability. Lots of people hate the .40 and I couldn't care less:)

LOL, I like your attitude Scoob!
I've got a number of handguns including a G23 which I like a whole lot. Fits my hand, points well for me, just the right combination of weight and balance to handle .40 all day. :)
