View Full Version : First AR build complete !
My first AR build is done. I bought a Rock Rover Arms kit from ADCO and a Stinger stripped lower. It all want together in about two hours for me. Everything looks great - I can't wait to take it to the range!
It's a flat-top with detachable carry handle, 16" HBAR with mid-length hand guard. I was impressed with the quality of the kit -- everything fit together well.
One tip - use a 1/4" clevis pin to help install the front takedown pin. You put it through with the hole lined up with the spring/detent hole. Then drop the spring/detent through the hole, compress them, and turn the clevis pin 90 degrees. Then you can push it out with the takedown pin. Works like a charm and costs less than the special tool for that purpose.
Look good, congratulations, what was the price for all?
Thanks Nestor!
The kit from Adco with the detachable handle and shipping was $577. The stripped lower was $89. I had to buy some tools and that added up to about $15 with shipping from Brownells. The detachable carry handle seemed very expensive, so you can save a lot (over $100) if you don't want it -- or buy one somewhere else.
Not a whole lot cheaper than buying new, but I enjoyed putting it together. There are also cheaper sources of kits.

I can imagine! You did good job! Give us some update from the range.
Wusup J! Nice! very NICE! Congrat on the AR.
Hopefully we can go to the rang in a few weeks. Dam I can't wait
to test it out with you. Its gonna be my first time shooting the AR15.

Does the RRA kit include the two stage trigger?
It comes standard in new RRA rifles and is worth about a hundred bucks.
I am thinking a complete rifle may be the way to go if this is the case, But i would really like to build one just for the experience and knowledge gained.
The kit does not come with the two stage trigger. But, the complete rifle that I built would cost $925 + shipping and transfer from Rock River arms. The only difference would be the lower receiver (but you can buy an RRA stripped lower and still save $$). I spent less than $700 to build mine, so I could buy a RRA 2 stage or even a better trigger and a bunch of mags for the difference. Plus, you get the experience of putting it together.

Nice gun. Did my first kit about a month ago (I bought the tool for the front take-down pin)
I enjoyed putting it together so much that I've bought another kit (Preban M4 CAR) and I'm gonna do it again on September 13.
