Have you looked for a Marlin Camp 45? I have one that I inherited from my father some years ago. It uses 1911 magazines as you specified.
thanks for the reply. Is that Marlin a current production?

No, but they are not hard to find in the stores and shows.
If you want something closer to a deLisle, there is an outfit putting .45 ACP barrels on Mausers, with a floorplate that holds a 1911 magazine.
do you happen to remember the name of the outfit doing that????

Mech Tech makes a carbine conversion kit that uses a 1911 frame to complete the firearm. I've never fired one personally, but I know a couple of guys that have them and they like them.
Like the Enfeild conversion really interesting you are really helping me make a choice with lots of good info..Thank you
I'll vote for the Marlin. Finally shot mine after about 5 years (finances) and it was actually a little anit-climactic. It was perfectly reliable, shot where I pointed it (only shot it at 25yds and less) and kicked like a BB gun. Everthing they said it was. It may be my favorite gun, right now. Let my girlfriend shoot it and she said, "It's mine." Not a gun "NUT", but enjoys shooting when she's in the mood. One day I guess we'll wrestle for it.

Look for a Marlin Camp Carbine in 45 ACP. I have one and it is a fantastic gun. It does use regular 45 magazines and shoots like a dream. I found a used one with a Tasco T dot scope on it a few years ago for $275 in Houston. This gun will leave a ragged 2 inch hole at 50 yards on target. I shot a marauding possum out near one of my chicken coops from about 40 yards and it just rolled him away.
I think Marlin discontinued it a few years back. This is fast becoming almost a cult classic gun. I know two other guys who have one and none of us would part with it. I also have heard that there are some covert drug cops in S America who regularly use these as primary arms with the 1911 as pistol back-ups. As a sport utility gun, it doesn't look like an 'evil' black gun but it sure as all the world is an assault weapon I'd use as a SHTF gun!
Thanks man iam looking hard for one to compiment my 1911.......One of the dealers I talked to said It would be 500 is that normal these days?
