Been thinking about a K40, however i dont see many kahrs in local gunshops, every one has a PM9 and an MK9 but thats about it, on the website they list MSRP values, for most of there line they are talking over 700 more like 8. Any idea on the price of the gun in
Eastern PA?
thanks

Should be at or right around the price of the 9mm Kahrs that you see... my local FFL shop pays the same price for an K9 or a K40... same for the MK9 & MK40.

D&R Sports has the K40 w/o night sights for $524.70.

Now you need to find a dealer who won't gouge you on the transfer fee. I use a place that's about a 25 minute drive because they charge $10 and are nice about it, while most of the local dealers want $30 - $40 and act like they are doing you some big favor.

Keep in mind, those local places would like you to spend your hard-earned money there. You've got to make it worth their while. They are doing a big favor for you. Some places will do it to get your future business. That's a big bonus!

Having a local stocking dealer where you can "browse" the guns is a big benefit to the potential buyer. You can see if the gun feels right in your hand. Sometimes the dealer will even have knowledgeable staff that can give you good advice on your purchase. These benefits are all worth money to me. That's why I always look at the local shops and check their prices before going elsewhere to buy. (But mudfootball's original question implied that he couldn't find a K40 locally.)

However, one has to eventually make a rational decision based on the overall package. If you know you want a K40 for $525 at D&R plus say $25 shipping and $20 for the local dealer to do the paperwork, then your total price is $570. If the local dealer won't sell to you for under MSRP ($719), then you have to decide whether what they can do for you on this purchase and in the future is worth your paying an extra $149 for the gun. That's enought money to cover 1000 rounds of practice ammo or pay for about half a good training course. Frankly, I've never found a dealer that was worth that differential.

After having written everything above, I re-read your post. Maybe you were commenting on my belief that $30-$40 is gouging. Well, it depends. Maybe thats an understandable price for a used gun shipped from a private individual because your FFL might get stuck with a gun on his books but in "limbo" if you won't pick it up and the seller refuses to provide an FFL to send it back to. However, if its a new gun from a reputable FFL source like D&R, then your dealer is really not accepting any real risk. They are asking you to pay $40 for ten minutes of their time. That's gouging in my opinion. Especially remebering that if they were willing to sell you the gun for a reasonable price in the first place, you would have bought it from them.

Steve

what you're saying. I guess I don't see it as that big a deal to pay $35 (what my dealer charges) to handle a purchase that wasn't from him. He typically has competitive prices and generally cuts me a discount anyway. He has earned that $35 easily without doing my paperwork. I kinda feel guilty for not buying the item from him, but it's usually something used that he didn't happen to have. I haven't really checked with other shops in the area to see what they would charge. I'm happy giving this guy my business.
