I cannot get Scott McDougall to respond to my calls. Does anyone have recommendations for a gunsmith that can do similar work on a Colt Pony? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'm in the same boat.
Contact Teddy Jacobson in Texas (www.actionsbyt.com); a friend has a couple 1911s that have been done by Teddy, and turned me on to his work. Teddy has been very responsive to my Email inquiries and has quoted me a very favorable price and turnaround time. All I'm waiting on is getting enough pennies scraped together...
Teddy does first rate work, and it is my understanding his turn time is quite quick these days.

The only thing Teddy won't do is cut the slide to install "real" (Novak, AO, etc) sights. Which is fine, as high-profile sights are silly on a pocket gun, anyway, and most folks want ~$300 to do the work (on a $400 weapon!). What Teddy will do for about $45 is drill the rear sight and install painted dots, and paint the front sight a contrasting color. Paint work is sealed and should hold up pretty well. Good compromise between the crappy stock sights and the godawful expensive tritium variety.
I shopped around at a number of custom shops/smiths (McDougall, Cogan Custom, Cylinder & Slide, etc) before making up my mind to go with Actions by T. C&S would've gotten serious consideration, but they are currently running a 4-month backlog.
What kind of work done you want done to the pistol particularly? Are you looking for checkering or stippling, a carry bevel, action work, etc... My wifes husband does some of that stuff. ;)
