Hey guys

Just wanted to let everyone know that I will soon be joining the 1911 Club. I have Glocks and have wanted to get a 1911 ever since the local dealer had about ten of them sitting on the counter. They were the SA mil-spec for $495.95+tax. I almost bought one from them because one person said I could get my member discount which would have brought the price down to $449. I went back a few days later with permit in hand and was denied the member discount by another person at the shop so I passed. I had also just barely passed on one from gunbroker.com that was going for $436+30shipping in order to get my G30. Well I waited and waited and waited for another $430's deal. I got lucky. I won one last night for $419+$25shipping. That is exactly a $100 savings from what the PX will sell it to me for. So in just a few days. I too will be an old slabsides owner.;a

I've got all of the parts(given to me by my Grandfather), except the frame, just ordered one today. I'll get it put together, and send pics in a month or so.

Yeah that's the way drug dealers operate too. The first batch is discounted, but then you'll be hooked on 1911s and spend every spare dime on new guns, gunsmithing, grips, refinishing, etc. etc. etc.

Welcome, your journey is just begining. ;?

all right I did it. I finally have a 1911 to call my own. I wound up getting a SA GI MIl-SPEC from one of the local dealers. It was still over priced a bit but with my member discount I was able to get it down to break even with the ones on gunbroker. I was actually going to get one from budsgunshop and save about another $50 but apparently he doesn't have any more and is having a hard time getting more. Apparently Springfield Armory is not returning his calls. Either that or he doesn't want to give up the MIL-SPEC I won from him for $419. We will see.

Well since you live in Jacksonville NC. They know they can screw Marines every chance they get.

Heck even the PX's prices are sometimes outrageous.

(now before someone chimes in here saying something about capitalism, be aware that the bulk buying power of the PX system is supposed to make mechandise cheaper for the GI to buy than he would if he went out to town)

Since they desgined that new PX complex, the prices have gone through the roof.

That is correct, I am currently on active duty until September.

The current PX is the same one that has always been here since I arrived here, so I can't compare before and after prices.

I will, however, agree that their prices leave a whole lot to be desired! I also think that the PX system is there to rip us off instead of take care of us. I have noticed that many times they price their products as much,or more, as out in town plus tax but hide behind the fact that they will price match within a fifty mile radius. Who the hell is going to request a price match for everything in their shopping basket and wait for them to call every store you saw it cheaper at to verify?

They are not willing to negotiate at all on their handguns. If they are not making a $100 or more profit on a handgun, they are not selling it. Period. Once in a while they try to say that they are selling their handguns for 10% off. What they don't tell you is that they always sell them for 10% below retail, which more than most dealers sell them for anyway. But, ask them if it's true that they are having a 10% off sale they just nod their head and pretend that you are getting a good deal. What a scam.
