View Full Version : Kahr P9 to P9 Covert conversion???
Anybody know if this is done by anyone? I really like that short grip.
Anyone maybe interested in a trade? Just thought I would ask.

Get somebody's PM9, line em' up, snap a mini chalk line and chop away. cut it about 1/16" - 1/8" longer since there is some gap on the PM9/coverts and you'll be able to use super fine sandpaper to make it smooth and perfect. You could probobly count the grooves and do it without another gun for comparison if you asked those with coverts (and trusted them). Can you order a frame? P9's seem useless anymore unless you use an 8 rd. mag, IMO.

These guys used to do it:

If you're handy you can probably accomplish it yourself.
that is what I thought, though I don't see it listed anymore. I'll have to shoot them an email.

They used to offer it before the compact frames became availabe. I don't see why they still wouldn't do it for you. It is worth an email to find out.

Easy to do with a hacksaw… if I had cared for the new “black diamond coat” that Kahr is offering I was going to buy the P9 with that finish & then cut the grip down to make it into a “BDC” P9 Covert.
I like the two-tone look though so I let Kahr do the grip mod for me:
Called Kahr and left a message. Frankly, I'm not real optimistic, they haven't returned my email so I don't think they will return the phone call. We'll see. By the way the 6 rd mag they sell is what I want right? And the extened mags they sell will do the job. I'll have 4 P9 sized mags left over, does extendagrip make a sleeve for them? Research time.

Yes, the Covert uses the exact same 6-round magazine the MK9 & the PM9 uses.

Yes… when you purchase a Covert it will come with a 7-round grip extender mag along with the 6-rounder.

You could always purchase the OEM grip extender mag base plate only direct from Kahr to convert your P9 magazines…
This is a picture of the 7-round grip extender mag that came with my Covert… there is only one 9mm 7-round grip extender mag available from Kahr & it will work in all MK9’s, PM9’s & P9 Coverts… the section highlighted in red in the picture is the “base plate only” that you can buy from Kahr to convert your P9 mags:
P.S. When the 7-round grip extending mag is inserted into the Covert/MK9/PM9 it fills the gap.
OK, kewl, thanks for the response.
What does Kahr charge to chop a P9 down to 'Covert' Length?
(I actually do like the DLC finish and a DLC'd P9 chopped down to Covert length sounds just about perfect...wish I had figured that out BEFORE I got my PM9, but...)

I don't know what they charge, they never responded to my email. School started back up (I'm a teacher) and I've been too damn busy to mess with it. I think I'm going to just sell it and the 3 extra mags and get a G26. I'm more used to that operating system anyway.

could they have made the gap filler any more uglier?
yeah,
I have no idea what the hell tehy were thinking with that gap filler. I have tried to take it apart and use my imagination to make something different but have yet to impress myself. I guess I could always cut down the mag and spring and try to make it flush fit.
I'll screw it up, though...
