Presently I'm looking at the Kimber Gold Combat, SA TRP, and Sig GSR? I own a Kimber TLE and Tactical Pro right now. I don't want to spend more the $1500.
Thanks!

TRP was my last toy purchased and I wish I could shoot as good as it does. :)

Well, Heaven forbid I should discourage somebody from buying a new gun, but what will the guns you are looking at do that the ones you already own won't? (There may be some significance in the alphabet soup that I don't realize.)

I'd hang on, save up another thousand, and get something REALLY nice like Baer, Brown, high end Wilson, SA Professional, or full custom from a reputable 'smith.

Is my choice for a great 1911.:)

Don't have to spend $2500 on a Baer. Here is a like new Baer Monolith on gunbroker (auction ends today so don't snooze). $1595.

Link to Baer Auction 20237121: http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=20237121

I'd also consider the Colt WWI replica. They're really quite nice and distinctive for about $880. I've seen, held, and shot one. If you can live with the low sights, this is a nice gun.

But you might also consider what the previous poster suggested. Get something different--like a race gun in 38 super, or better yet, a colt Python.

Of course they won't do anything my present ones won't do, but I collect 2 kinds of guns Glocks and 1911s, since I just got a G26 last month, I need a 1911 to offset it. Now who can argue with that logic?

$800.00 on a new Colt series 70 and a whole lot of ammo.

I second that. All I will add is some of Tuner's slurry and some elbow grease.

Why not go a semi-custom route?

I have Nowling Match Classic in 9x23 that's an absolute dream to shoot. Groups well, the Ashley Express Sight notwithstanding, is reliable and a .38 Super and 9mm conversion are just a barrel swap away.

That WW1 Colt is just tearing me up. I've got a NRM and a Combat Commander XSE, but I am really Jonesing for one of those WW1 models.

I think $1500 will get you a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special, won't it? That would be my choice...

They are $15XX on sporting arms.com and would be a great choice.

I have two Wilson KZ45's, one that I shoot and one safe queen. I am very pleased with it, shoots great, very accurate and 10+1 capacity. Not a bad thing. I know, it is a little off of the beaten path of the standard 1911, but I am very happy with it. :)

Check out SA's TGO 3, I love mine. Just got home from work but I went to the range today before work. Man that thing shoots great!

I would get the Colt series 70, and then do mods as needed.
Even if you cannot handle the mods yourself, you can send it to Ted Yost for a 1* package for $800 and it would come back better than anything you could buy for $1500.

That would be my choice..... or a wilson CQB slightly used.... either would be a good pick...in my opinion.

A friend with a gold combat has had nothing but trouble after several trips back to kimber it still is not 100 percent reliable.... I would scratch it from my list.... If you have had better luck with kimber, then maybe your luck will hold...

I think Ted has a 6-8 month wait period right now...

Hope not, since I sent him my Delta before I got it out of my system.

My advice to you would be to skip the custom and semi-custom route and, instead, just go out and buy a plain-jane, milspec, 1911A1 government (from either springfield armory or colt) for about 400 or 500 dollars. Spend whatever you have left on things like ammo, holsters (including OWB, IWB, and drop-leg thigh holsters), chip mccormick and/or wilson magazines (lots of 'em), magazine pouches and a set of fixed tritium night sights. Then hit the range and then hit it again and again and again and again. And then hit it some more. Hit the range so much that your knowledge of your weapon becomes so great that it eventually becomes instinctive, natural and automatic. Nothing replaces time behind the trigger.

Forget Sig, SA and Kimber for a gun over $1000. They are simply overpriced production guns when you get past that amount. I would go with a Rock River Arms or Valtro are the best deals around $1500 if you can wait 6 months to a year. Otherwise, I second the Baer Thunder Ranch and Colt Series 70 reissue recommendations.

I'd go for a Les Baer TRS for $1569. It's a fantastic pistol at this price point. Check out THIS LINK (http://www.sportingarms.com/results.asp?mfr_name=117&category_descr=0&subcategory_descr=16&max_price=1600&keyword_descr=&B1=Submit&page_no=1) for all the Les Baer pistols under $1600.

If you got to ask what to spend it on; you don't need it! LOL ;f I would go for the WW1 Colt repro myself; nice pistol.

I don't want to "Kimber Bash", but mine is in a FedEx box on it's way back to New York right now. I am very disappointed. For $1500, I would definately pick up a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special, although, I picked up my brand new Full Size Wilson CQB for $1750 :)

What about a GLOCK-21... they work fine right out the box or a S&W 625... they also work fine.

chrisman17. I'm with ya on the Glock's or 1911's. I own, or have owned Wilson. Baer, Brown, Novak, etc. My line of thinking is, " If I can't have a 1911, Gimme a Glock ". With that being said, Go for a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special. I've owned 6 of them in the past. And in my quest for the ultimate 1911, have either sold them or traded toward another limited production 1911's. I alway's end up back at the TRS. IMHO this is the best 1911 going. Unless of course you have deep pocket's and can have one of the top pistolsmiths build you a Custom 1911. This will cost approx. twice the price of a TRS, and not necessarily be better. I can't justify paying another $1500 for my ego, or the smith's ego. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Whoa, stop right there. Right off the bat I can tell you, you need a Colt. Nice Colt $800-$1000, $500 for accessories and ammo. You get a loaded 1911, and you get a Colt, double whammy, cant lose.

Just a side question, but if the TRS is so great, why'd you let five (or six?) of them go?

But what smith only charges $500.00 for a "loaded" 1911?

An 800-1000$ Colt is as loaded with Colt goodness, but by loaded I meant a gun and everything that goes with it.

Just off the top of my head I'd say an ambi safety, shock buff and night sights.

Just read a review in shooting times and liked the Thunder Ranch Comanche Special (TRCS) 4" but it is $2,099 and I think my Kimber Compact CDP is almost as nice (90%) for $1,049

My Springfield 4" 1911 is pretty darn nice too, but doesn't have the slide melt, 30lpi front strap, or ambi safety of the CDP or TRS, which is why it is for sale now for $700 in the classifieds.

I;d get a paraordanace p14-45 or a Wilson Combat 1911. Both are excellent.
