Hi, folks. Will someone please set me straight about something ...
I bought a PM9 recently, brought it home for a good clean & lube, then off to the range for a few hundred rounds of Winchester White Box. No problems with function at all (POI quite a bit above POA, but that's an issue for another day). Today I field-stripped, cleaned and lubed again, but noticed something odd: after dry-firing the pistol and pulling back the slide, I noticed that the striker was still protruding from the breech face, and did not recede until the slide moved forward and, presumably, the striker reached the striker block. I tried this many more times noting that once in every six or so attempts the striker would recede immediately after it "fired". I field-stripped again to make sure it all went back together correctly, but the situation didn't change.
I made a call to Kahr and spoke to technician Stefan (very nice guy!), who suggested there might have been debris in the striker channel and gave me some guidance to remove the striker assembly. I did so, cleaned the channel and striker, and (at Stefan's suggestion) lightly applied a Teflon-based lube. Nothing has changed. The striker, while certainly not loose in the channel, slides easily with no apparent binding. Now, however, I wonder if there really is a problem at all. It occurs to me now that since the striker is always under tension from the striker spring, the striker couldn't possibly recede back into the slide without the striker block forcing it to do so.
In summary, when one depresses the trigger the striker flies forward of the breech face and will remain that way until, as the slide returns to battery, the striker block forces the striker to recede. Is this correct, or is something amiss?
Thank you all for your time,
John
