I bought a set of genuine ivory 1911 grips from a buddy's father-in-law recently, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the resiliency of ivory on a 1911. I put them on my 70S Combat Commander and they look great (sorry, haven't figured out how to use my digital cam yet). I am hoping they will last at least as long as I do. Got 'em for $200.
Any comments or suggestions?
I would say the main thing is to not let them dry out. This leads to cracking. Try using a light mineral oil or lemon oil periodically to keep the from drying out. High heat is an enemy also.

Thanks! I hadn't considered that.

“light mineral oil or lemon oil” are not as good as Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Both light mineral oil or lemon oil will cause drying out. ....;a

Seems like the reading material that came with my ivory grips from Nutmeg Sports recommended an occasional rubdown with light gun oil. I'm sure that Jim Alaimo or one of the guys at Nutmeg can give you their recommendation for care. They are extremely nice folks and have absolutely beautiful grips.

I just so happen to have a bottle of this in my kitchen. Any idea if it might harm the nickel finish on my Commander?

Ivory grips and a 1911 are the ultimate personal expression.
