How durable is the blackened SS on the Kahrs? My K40 SS rusted very easily.

So far no problems at all with mine.I wipe it down with a dry rag daily to remove lint and wipe it once a week with gun oil.I use a dunk it for soaking it once a month and or after I had it to the range.
according to the Guns & Weapons for law enforcement Mag, Sept. 2004 issue, and I quote:
"...The next layer is our diamond-like coating(DLC) and that is followed by a diamond top coat, which makes our finish scrach resistant..." It also states that "surface hardness of th finish registers an amazingly hard 90 on the Rockwell C scale." they also speculate that it won't be long until other manufacturers will be using this same coating and process. I don't know if that answers your question, but I bought mine after reading that article due to the fact that i wanted an everyday carry gun, that the finish will not be affected, also , I picked it over the Glock, Springfield XD, and the SW99 Compact.

I managed to put a scratch in my Black Diamond PM9, so I thought. Sure looked like it was scratched but it buffed right out, that is some pretty amazing stuff.
Thanks for the explaination of the "Black Diamond" coating, I was wondering how they did that.

Ya, I've been scanning the gun rags looking for expected upcoming reviews of the Rohrbaugh R9 and found the nice article about the Kahrs in the G&WFLEO! :) I had to buy it!
