View Full Version : Can you get 9th round in G30 9 round magazine?
I bought a G36 and a G30 in the last couple of weeks and am very happy with them - the G30 is my favorite, the G36 is my second favorite gun. I've never had any difficulty getting the maximum number of rounds in any of my glock magazines (G26, G19, G17, G34, G27, G36, G30 w/ 10 rnds), but I can't get the 9th round in the G30 9 round magazine. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any pointers as to what I can do to solve this problem?

Use your thumbs. push bullet in mag down w/ left hand thumb, put right hand thumb on top of bullet and push down then back.

Use your speed loader. You will still have to massage the last round in for the first few hundred rounds of use. I experienced the same thing with both the ten and none round mags.

Thanks 'don't tread on me'. I used your technique and was able to get the ninth round in the magazine. But, here's my current problem. Now the rounds are so tightly packed that when I put the magazine in the gun, with the slide back, and push the slide release lever the round won't feed. Also, with the 9th round loaded if I shake the magazine there is a rattling noise. I've never heard this rattling noise in any of my other fully loaded magazines. Well, I was successful in getting in the 9th round and now I'm on to my next problem with this magazine. Yikes!

Unload the mag and reload it with five rounds. Tap it on a hard surface so that all rounds seat against that back of the magazine. Load the remaining 4 rounds and tap again. This should help with the rattle. Inset mag into the well with the slide FORWARD and in battery. It will be VERY tight and won't want to seat. Don't worry.....just give it a good whack on the bottom with the heel of your hand ( won't break anything). When it's seated, manually rack the slide and the round chould chamber. This is all part of the break in process that I experienced for the first 300 rounds. My partner bought a G30....same day and didn't have the same experience as I. Go figure. Anyway, mine loads alot earsier now. Not perfect yet but a lot better.

The problem is usually not spring-related. If you were dealing with a strong spring, you wouldn't get to a "stop" when trying to load the appropriate number of rounds. Most of the symptoms you describe can be attributed to the follower legs catching on a burr or at the transition to the floorplate. Cure is to bevel the rear of (maybe even shorten by 1/8" or so) the follower legs and check the lower part of your mag tube for burrs.

I managed to load up nine (very tight fit in there) and I smacked the magazine with the heel of my hand to get it into the well. It then required a lot of force to rack the slide and chamber the round. It took so much force to manually rack the slide that I doubt the normal firing mechanism would feed a round from the fully loaded magazine, so I'm just leaving 8 in there for the time being. I ordered a couple of more 9 rnd mags and if they don't work I'll disassemble the mag, check for burrs, file the follower feet per WalterGA's instructions. Thanks for all the advice.

Listen to Walter. I had the same problem with both the nine and ten round mags. The follower bottoms out on the plate. Cure is to file down the follower legs, just a little at a time, until you can get the magazine fully loaded with no interference with the slide when inserted into the well.
I've done eight magazines so far. Got the first one functioning well, then used that follower as a template for the others.
Lots of luck.

thanks Walter/Elmstreet
I do think I'll try that myself and get them to load as easily as my 9mm mags as mine are still somewhat stiff.;K
