Well, our Monday trip to the farm didn't pan out. Seems as if the guy had nerve enough to take his girlfriend on a surprise trip to the beach and propose ;g

So a pal and I salvaged the day by taking our new AIM Surplus CZ-52's to the local indoor range along with a box of Yugo surplus ammuntion (marked 1955). We also took along a couple of modern CZ's, a 75B SA (his) and a 75 Compact (mine).

After each firing a magazine or two through the 75's (it's been a good while since either of us had shot) to get back into the groove, I put a single round in my 52, just to see what would happen. BOOOM! These little things certainly make some noise! But everything worked ok - feeding, cycling, etc. Trigger pull is stout, but I expected that from the reading I had done on the 52. Recoil wasn't bad - felt about like the 124gr +P 9mm I had shot out of my Compact.

We took turns the rest of our time there, switching up between the moderns and the old CZ's, working our way up to full magazines in the 52's. Out of a full magazine, one to two rounds would need an extra hit to light them off. So the ammo wasn't perfect, but every round did go off on the second strike, if needed.

Neither of us paid much attention to where the rounds were hitting the target, since we're both very much out of practice, and neither could ever claim to be good shots at our best. But they all hit paper, so that's good, at least. I found the 52 a little hard to hang on to with a two-handed grip. I think a wraparound of some sort would help me out. My buddy said he was fine with it, so maybe it's just hand size and grip style.

Two fun aspects of the 52 - the muzzle flash (looked to be at least 18" on every shot), and the velocity at which the cartridges get ejected. Both of us were pegged on the rebound more than once by shells. Can't wait to shoot one outside to see how far away they end up.

Next time out, we're going to take some new-production Sellier and Bellot ammo with us to see how that shoots. I think with some practice, the 52 could be a regular in the range bag. Well, that and a 75B SA. After shooting his, I *really* want one to go along with my 75B Mil and the Compact.

Also, I think I will definitely order another 52. I want to hot-rod one a little bit and keep this one bone stock.

sounds like the cz puts out a bit of a kick. thanks for the report. I'm getting in 2 cz-52's soon and I'm looking forward to the range myself.

It's really not that bad. I've only shot handguns larger than 9mm a handful of times, and I wasn't uncomfortable at all with the 52.

Of course, I also don't think an M44 has a bad recoil either, so ;g
