My full time job is as a police officer in a suburb of Louisville, KY, but I sometimes moonlight at a gunstore here in town. I was in the other day and saw that we have a new batch of PM40's in and I got to looking at them. Our contact at Kahr says that the bugs have been worked out and these guns definitely have some differences from the early ones. I ended up taking one for myself to see if they are right or not. We have an MK40 on order, so if this PM40 doesn't work I'm going to trade it for the MK40.

Anwyay, here are the difference that can be obviously felt.
1. This gun is serial number WA07XX. I think the gun with the modification will all have W serial numbers instead of V numbers.

2. The recoil spring is obviously much stronger.

3. The extractor tension seems to be a little less than previous PM40's. With the gun dissassembled, a round can be pushed under the extractor very easily.

4. You can't tell it, but according to the rep the mag catch is changed to a newer mod.

I have not had a chance to shoot this gun yet. I can tell a difference in that this gun will hand cycle rounds with no problems. My first PM40 would not hand cycle at all. It would fail to go into battery nearly every time when hand cycling. This gun can be induced to do the old failure to go into battery, but you have to make it do it. If you have a round in the chamber and pull the slide to the rear about 3/4", the slide will return to full battery instead of hanging up just short of battery. I am optimistic that this gun will work. Of course the proof is in the pudding. I will post more once I get to shoot it.

I just got a new PM40 last week and will not have the chance to shoot it until the end of the month. My initial impressions of the gun are very positive. I will be interested in hearing about your shooting experience with yours.

I am also very interested. I have a K40 and am very happy, but would like to get either a MK40 or PM40 for summer carry. How bad is the recoil with a PM 40?

I am hoping to shoot today. I can tell you from the frist PM40 that I had, recoil is fairly rough but not unbearable. I would rather shoot a PM40 than say a steel J frame .357. I've had both and the PM40 is more controllable for me. The main thing is whether or not this one will work.

I was able to shoot the new PM40 today. I am happy to report there were no problems/malfunctions of any kind. I shot 100 rounds of American eagle 165 grain fmj and 20 rounds of remington golden saber 165 jhp. I inspected it after and found no problems with the gun or mags. It looks like they are straightened out.
