part swappin'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a nrm blued colt and an orm matte colt that I would like to swap some parts between ie. the triggers, grip safety and hammer. If I use all of the parts from the trigger groups sear, mainspring, strut, trigger, grip safety and hammer, should this be pretty straight forward?

Anything is possible, however you would best be served by a smith looking at it. You are dealing with tolerances in the thousandths. Your hammer hooks can be as little as .020 tall and your engagement surface on the sear is mated to that. The thumb safety is mated to the sear to arrest 100% of the movement of the sear. When demensions begin to change, these surfaces end up in different places. You would have to count on the pin placement in both frames to be exactly alike. Now keep in mind that thee are aceptable tolerances on any production line, but normally the sear and hammer engagment is checked and corrected and also the thumb safety.
The grip safety is also adjusted to the trigger bow if done properly.
Now, the parts may just 'drop-in', but you need to be certain their relationship is perfect or you will be walking around with not one but two unsafe pistols.
