I was doin some shooting this afternoon, and when I finished about the 200th round, the slide locked back as usual, I dropped the mag, laid the big dawg on the bench and I saw something fall. It was the slide lock!! Upon further inspection, the retention spring (the little one made of spring steel) broke off at the frame! I took it over to the glocksmith to see if he had another spring. All he had was the springs for the full size glocks!:( He said I would have to send it back to Glock, and be without it for a few months. I was like, I don't think so! Thank god for Glockmeister! Ordered me 2 of them little bad boys for all my Glocks. I guess I can't complain though....3000+ rounds and that is the only problem I have had EVER. Nohting like my boat anchor, I mean my Ruger KP90!!;) Anyone else broke this damn spring??

Yep, my G30 has broken THREE of those! ;Q Usually after less than 3,000 rounds. Fortunately, the gun seems to keep working until it is dry-fired. Having spares on hand is a Good Idea, and you might want to have a spare slide lock as well, in case it disappears.

This spring has NEVER broken on any of my other Glocks. Why does it happen so often with the G30? (There have been posts from others who have experienced this.) Is it a run of defective springs, bad design, or something else? I don't know, but I have one hunch. I've noticed that the G30 often seems to "resist" more when field-stripping or reassembling. That is, the slide is harder to remove or reinstall because the recoil spring assembly readily drops down from the "assembly" notch. I normally used additional force to overcome the spring resistance. It is posible that I was putting additional stress on the slide lock spring. I don't know if this has anything to do with the G30's propensity to break slide lock springs, but I'm trying to be more careful when removing or reinstalling the slide these days.

What kind of idiot is your supposed Glocksmith? Send a Glock back to the shop, I don't think so. I own 4, everything from old 2nd generation to latest 3 rd. There isn't anything I would hesitate to replace on my Glocks myself. A Glocksmith should really know better.

Good luck
