Raw thumb from mag release?

First thank you for all the info that I have gained from this site. I am a new gunner who purchased my first gun (G23) for home defense, or at lease thats what I told my girlfriend. I have fired approx. 800 rounds of range ammo and each time I fire the mag release rubs my thumb on my right hand. After 100 rounds or so it HURTS! I have tried to adjust my grip but my large hands fit best with my thumb just above the release. Is this common, and something to just get used to? Any advise would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with mine, I took 800 grit sand paper and rounded the corners and top of the mag release button. Issued solved.

Maybe try a rubber wraparound grip like Pachmayr or something similar to increase grip circumference. If all else fails, G21 has larger grip for your big mitts.
